So what happened the last time you tried to lose weight?

I'm 20 at the moment, when i was younger 14-19 i had no idea about nutrition or exercise. I would starve and binge . and get no where. When i turned 20 I learned about nutrition and exercise. I got a gym membership. A personal trainer made me a diet plan and a fitness plan which I stuck too and am still sticking to. I started eating 1200 calories a day, I started doing a lot of research and reading about nutrition and weight loss. I made a lot of fitness friends doing the same thing. I've lost 13 kg since June 2011 and am in the process of losing the last 4 kg. Now that I have a lot of knowledge on health and fitness it is easy. I believe its only ever difficult for those who are undereducated in the subject, as I was before.0

Well, this is only the second time I've tried to lose weight. The first time I was in high school & successfully lost about 30lbs by starving myself. Yeah, I was tired all the time & I had dizzy/blackout spells but I was skinny! *sarcasm*
But what made me lose that motivation? (Thank god) I got pregnant. But then it was like a 9 month free for all. I gained 40 lbs. This time I've been at the healthier lifestyle/dieting for a year. I've lost almost 30 lbs but I'm still chugging along. I don't feel like I'll lose motivation this time.0 -
... i succeeded.0

I had recently gone through a hard time in my life and stopped doing anything. I gained a little over 20 pounds and was depressed all the time. I realized that I needed to make a change, so I started changing my diet and exercising everyday. I lost 20 lbs and I felt great.0

... i succeeded.
I love it, just when I was ready to hear all negative stuff!0 -
Many excuses;
I got sick so out of the workout routine for 2-3 weeks and then it was difficult to re-start
I got little or no results for weeks/weeks/months so I gave up
Mental Blocks
Thyroid stuff making my metabolism slower so then I get discouraged.
I'm not giving up this time. Never. Ever. No way. Nope. Not happening.0 -
I loss weight then I lost my motivation..0

well the first time, I was a lot smaller than I am now but still was determined to lose weight. I set my mind to losing it and ended up 50 pounds lighter in less than a year. Then I got married lol And I guess in the midst of newlywed marital bliss, I adapted a new diet (was a vegetarian before I moved in with my hubby), stopped going to the gym, and just stopped caring in general I guess. Not only did I gain the weight back, but about 40 pounds extra on top of that. Now that I've set it in my mind again that I'm going to lose the weight, I plan on losing it all again, and then some.0

The first time was in college and I just cut portions and did a lot of walking and they weight just fell off (ah youth). Then I had my appendix out at the end of college and started a new job. Feeling like my internal organs were going to fall out through the stitches, I stopped exercising and constantly going out to lunch with everyone at the new job was not helping my eating and I ballooned up. Then I tried weight watchers a couple of years later and lost 45 lbs! It was so great. I had never been in that good of shape and I think I got too excited and too carried away. I started to live like I had been born that way and over the next three years put all of it back on plus an additional ten. Now I am trying again. This time I'm trying to lose and get stronger and this time my goal is good health and fitness so I am now on this "diet" for life.0

I was going to the gym every day...sometimes twice a day! Had lost over 20 pounds. Then, I tore my hamstring in my right thigh. Was laid up for almost 6 months. The tear was almost to the point of requiring surgery...but thankfully did not need to go there. Then, about 2 months later, I tore the hamstring in my left calf. Took about 3 months to recover. By then, the gym, exercise, eating right....none of that was anywhere in my vision or future plans!
Now, I am careful when I exercise...work through the pain and/or injury slowly and cautiously...and have been doing great since January 15 of this year!0 -
I lost over 10 kgs on low carb. A few years ago, was studying, was stressful. changed around on lots of med and put my 10 kg back on plus 20 more kg in just a few months.0

Last time, I tried to lose weight... I took off my socks and shoes... soon after my feet got cold. lol
I am just bumping, cause this is my first true attempt at weight loss, and wish to learn0 -
didnt have the right plan and didnt lose. Never had the right diet >>>I was exercising but just wastn losing. Also, i tried the zone, paleo and i gues they werent for me b/c i couldnt stick to it. Also, i wasnt tracking my calories like I am now. and i wasnt working out every single day like i am now. So i wasnt loseing.
Now that being said. I am loseing weight now and have a plan it just clicked. I have to say weight watchers taught me how to choose the right foods w/ out giving up food i love .. i just dont eat it all the darn time or i portion. And also since i work out i can eat more but not over do it.
THe KEY to get to your goal::::: work out and eat more0 -
I actually lost 80 pounds a couple years back doing what I was doing now pretty much. All was well, I was looking good, feeling great and things we're great. I was super confident in myself for the first time ever. Thennnnn one day I was playing football, as I normally did, but when I was running someone tripped me and I landed full force on my shoulder and hurt it badly. I had no insurance (still don't) so I had to deal with whatever happened to my shoulder. Then a few months later I fell down stairs carrying chairs for my birthday party--someone left their damn shoes on the steps, so I tumbled down stairs with a stack of heavy chairs on top of me. They landed on my leg and I have this bulge on the right side of my lower leg. I never got any of these fixed, but when these originally happened they put me on the shelf for a good amount of time and I slowly regained all that weight I lost back And any physical acttivity I did came with great pain, as it actually does most of the time still today, but it's slightly more tolerable now.0

Last time I tried to lose weight (I am 5'9, I was 18, and I ran track), everyone thought I was crazy because I was 135 lbs trying to get back down to 130 lbs. Yea. I got a lot of yap from everyone about how I was trying to be too "skinny"
Then gained 50 lbs a year later...Everyone thought I was crazy again
Now, at 22, I am still trying to lose weight....But this time..... I don't care what people think0 -

Two years agao I started on MFP and at the same rate, quickly lost 30 pounds or more in 3 months.
We moved, for my husbands job, I commuted back to saltspring Island for work and my husbands new job turned into a nightmare. They used him and his truck, putting in hundreds of extra hours and when it came time to pay him out after the year, the boss and his wife went on vacation then came home and declared bankrupsy instead of paying us the $20,000 they owed us.
Unemployed and needing to move it took some time to get another job and location.
During this time, I lost my motivation, I ate for comfort and didn't feel like spending time on myself. Gained the weight back.
Two years later, I am starting over. I am almost 20 down, and want to stay on track.
I ran into my husbands X-boss's wife yesterday. She wanted to know why my husband was not on good terms with her husband. I let her know that we are not bitter, just adjusting after finding ouselves unemployed and broke. Do some people think it's ok to treat their employee's that way? It baffles me. But We are happy and recovering, and have learned to be less trusting.0 -
I got "knocked up"
for the 6th time..

This is about the 50 millionth time I've tried to lose weight. I tried numerous times in high school, walking for miles all over town and barely eating anything, then I would binge and eat like a week worth of food in one day. I also used be be severely depressed and was an emotional eater too. So I would get mildly optimistic a try again, just for someone to say or do something to knock me back down into my depression.
Once I got out of my depression, big thank-you to my hubby, for helping me though it. I started trying to lose again, I was doing good, but then we got tight on money and I didn't even have grocery money, we ate cheap, sadly healthy isn't cheap. Then about a year or so later I tried again, once we had extra cash again. I ended up just getting comfortable and I happy being chunky.
This time, I'm in my late 20's, I just spend last summer worrying about my dad's health. He had a heart attack, survived but had to have a quadruple bypass surgery. He needed lots of help being cared for after while recovering. Then I started thinking about how diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol issues, heart problems, run in my family. I don't want to follow suit. This is my motivation! I have slipped up lots, but I keep at it and refuse to revert this time around.0 -
I lost 42 pounds in hopes to feel better but to also ease the pain I was having in my chest/stomach. But it wasn't stopping, so I gave up and continued to have severe pain. Months later I found out that i needed to have my gallbladder out. I gained it all back and then some... and here I am.0

I thought I had to starve and give up all of the things that I loved! Learning that that's not true has made all of the difference in the world this time! I know I'll make it!0

I tried to lose weight in college, but was unsuccessful and became depressed. I tried again a few years later but gave up. Then I ended up losing around 50-60 lbs while I was with my ex husband over a period of 4-6 months, but that was from stress and not eating. My ex used food as a tool to torture me so he'd either eat it all or hide it and make me starve for days. I also worked 16 hor shifts as a CNA 6 days a week just to get away from the *kitten*. I left about 1 or 2 years later and gained all the weight plus some while I lived with my dad, because for the first time food was available for me to eat whenever I wanted and I binged often. I got thrown out about 4 months later because his *kitten* told him I was stealing things and I was ruining their lives and went out on my own again. I lost all the weight I had gained from walking and not eating from stress and over working myself by having 3 jobs and going to school full time to become a LPN. I finished school and moved in with my mother I binged again and ballooned up to almost 300 lbs. I met my husband got remarried and after having a miscarriage I got diagnosed with pcos. I'm determined to get rid of this weight so I can hopefully get pregnant again and lower my miscarriage risk.0

... i succeeded.
Yay!0 -
this is only my second real attempt at eating right and exercising. i tried the south beach diet when i was like 20 but fell off the wagon after 2 weeks and i never once exercised more than trying to run and failing lol. the last time i did this was last summer and it was more of an experiment to see IF i could do it, and i did and lost 3 inches, but then my birthday month came up (my whole familys bdays are in sept so we bbq EVERY weekend) and i moved and everything was chaos for a month or two and i just got in the habit of not working out again and eating bad because i had no gas or microwave for a month or two in my new place.
but this time i'm in it for the long haul now that i know I CAN do it and IT WORKS.0 -
I starved myself...and before that I starved myself..and the time before that and bef- well, you get it :P Ive been losing the same 20-30lbs since I was 12. I finally got tired of being hungry and still being fat. I got smart and thought there must be a different way than 1200 cal plus intensive exercise. It sad, I really thought that was how it was done.that's what I heard the modles did after all. Sorry for spelling, on my phone.0

When I was 14 years old I lost a bunch of weight
and kept it off for 25 years,
Then I got hit by a car...
Much tougher to lose at 48 than it was at 14.0 -
Last time I tried to lose weight, I got pregnant and ended up losing 70lbs in my pregnancy and then had her and gained 25.5 back...0

I got "knocked up"
for the 6th time..
ugh
Wtf? 6 times is a lot -_-
I "plateaued" because of lack of exercise so I ended up lowering my BMR too much. I gave up and ended up gaining back around 30 pounds before deciding to lose weight again with Diet AND exercise.0 -
A few years ago I did successfully lose about 70 pounds with a healthy diet and exercise, after many failed attempts to lose weight by starving myself. Unfortunately I didn't maintain for very long...maybe about 6 months or so after I reached a weight I was happy with. After that things fell apart for 2 main reasons.
1. I was sooo broke. I couldn't afford good food and my diet consisted mainly of no-name mac and cheese that i bought for 40 cents a box, and also free pizza from various events around campus. Sometimes I actually went to events for the sole purpose of getting food.
2. Stress and lack of time. School got ridiculous, and I also took on extra jobs to try to help solve my financial woes. I basically ended up being busy with either school or work from the time I woke up at 6am till the time I went to bed at....some godawful hour of the morning.
No surprise, the pounds steadily crept back on, until I ended up even heavier than before I started losing the weight in the first place. But this time, nothing is going to stop me! Plus my life is slightly more manageable now than it was before haha.0 -
