A Substitute for Rice

I am new to MFP and eat a lot of rice, which I can now see are very high in calories. Can anyone suggest a good alternative:heart:

    You can use quinoa as a substitute. It is versatile, and you can use it wherever you would normally use rice. Very good for you and yummy.

    Quinoa is high calorie, too, but it does have more nutrition. I think most grains and seeds are pretty caloric.

    A low-cal sub for rice...hmm. Maybe put cooked cauliflower through a ricer?

    Rice isn't that high in calories. How much are you eating and what type?

    I love my brown rice it tastes good with a dash of organic soy.

    I usually have half a cup.

    Switch to wholegrain rice.
    Or try wholewheat couscous or bulgar wheat? :-)

    Mix your rice with roasted veg (just use a little oil when roasting) and it looks more! Also do this with couscous

    Be careful with rice database entries whether it's showing cooked or uncooked weight. Dry rice is 2/3 times the calories of cooked rice per 100g.

    if you grate cauliflower put it in a bowl and cover it in cling film it only takes a couple of minutes to cook in the microwave!

    I find that rice with wild rice in it seems to be more chewy and filling, so I'm happier with a smaller portion.

    My family eats rice so I chuck a sweet potato in the rice cooker too - saves extra time - and voila! Beautifully steamed. ;)

    Don't know about the calories (cbb to remember them or search it again) but it tastes yummier and is healthier :D

    (Cauliflower idea sounds good but it's too bad I can't stand the stuff!)

    I dont touch rice now, i use bulgur wheat instead. I prefer it to rice.

    1 cup of rice (cooked) is about 200 cals - I suggest that you watch your portions and keep eating rice.

    I'd struggle to exclude rice from my diet! I do use wholegrain more, but the best thing is to consider portion control (50g dry weight does me) and add lots of veggies

    Don't microwave plastic, it releases toxic chemicals.

    Rice is fine! Maybe just switch to brown rice to keep you fuller for longer.

    When I started out with weight loss I panicked about the calories in rice but looking back there was no need to and it's now a regular component in my diet.
