Tea vs water

I have more tea a day than I do water. I have loose leaf tea (not the bag stuff you get like Lipton). I have it with no milk or sugar. I can go through 2 pots of tea a day of green or/and white tea. Is that really ok and can it count for water consumption?

Does the caffeine in the tea cause any problem? I don't seem to be affected by it in anyway. The tea I drink mainly is also supposed to help with weight loss aswell0

Just watch if it is caffeinated, I would still try to drink water itself then. Caffeine can dehydrate you. I love tea as well :-)0

You just need to log anything other than plain water as most beverages also have calories.0 -
I am the same way. I drink lots of green and white tea without adding a thing to it. I did track the type of tea for a long time along with the water quantity, but I quit doing that b/c the health benefits of the tea aren't something trackable in MFP. I my water and my tea. Once I hit my 8 cups I quit logging even though I haven't finished consuming. I know I get far more than I track.
Also, I choose mostly naturally decaf teas, so the caffeine is such a minimal amount I'm not concerned with it.

The tea I get does not show a calorie content (or any nutrition info). And I can't firn any information about it online or on MFP. Should I log it as tea with zero calories??0

I wouldn't suggest following this idea. Beverages like soda and coffee do not hydrate the body, they dehydrate it. Things like tea, soup broth, etc do hydrate the body.0 -
Water is also a diuretic. But you're still logging that, no?

About water and tea and stuff:
No, water is a diuretic strictly by definition, only in excessive amount, taken into the amount lost by perspiration I doubt most people here go above that amount on a regular basis. Some people easily go above the diuretic effect threshold of caffeine and neither green tea nor white is as caffeine-free. People have different ways and amounts of brewing and a cup black tea can easily have as high caffeine as an espresso shot. It's similar for green and white, caffeine amount is only around 1/3-1/4 lower than black tea since we're talking about the same species of plant here. On a side note; anything above 3 to 4 (researches vary, no wonder) cups of coffee (mind the brewing again) is diuretic.
Herbal tea is the only exception to this.
Edit: Needless to say caffeine is a chemical compound and you can't argue with chemistry and chromatography.0 -
I drink a LOT of weak brewed black teas. Yes it has caffeine. Yes, caffeine does dehydrate you to a point, but I've given up 2-3 of my 3-4 cokes a day . . and I'm working on the last one now so the amount of caffeine I get from tea is astronomically lower than my usual intake.
Tea will still hydrate you, I just suggest trying to drink some pure water when you can. I have a problem drinking plain water because its so . . . well . . plain. So I'm TRYING to drink two bottles of water (8 cups) and then the rest of the day I drink tea.
So far I am struggling with reaching my goal on either thing, I've never been a well hydrated person and changing my habits is proving difficult.0 -
caffeine free tea w/o sugar or cream or whatever is basically healthy water IMHO.0
