Binge Eating?

How exactly would you define binge eating? How many calories eaten is considered a binge?
I'm asking because yesterday I ate so much more than I usually do...I normally keep my calories between 1500-2000 but yesterday I'm pretty sure I ate around 3000 and maybe a little over. Is that considered a binge?
And something else weird is that this morning when I weighed myself I actually went down a little bit, like 1/2 to 1 pounds down. Is this normal?

your body hasn't caught up to your binge yet.
Wow even 2000 sounds high to me.
Knowing you ate more than normal sounds like a binge to me.
What kind of mood were you in while this went on?0 -
To me a binge isn't about the calories eaten, to me it's that out-of-control feeling with food, where I start eating stuff I wouldn't normally eat and in large quantities.
I'm guessing if you saw a loss on the scale then the binge hasn't caught up to you yet. When I overeat, it seems to take a day or two before it shows up on the scale.
Just forgive yourself, get back on track, and consider yesterday a learning experience and move forward. :flowerforyou:0 -

I've been dieting for the past two months and just recently started to up my calories and I think that's what triggered it...I'm not sure. I just had decided to give myself a treat and then before I know it I just keep going. It's like once I started I couldn't really stop0 -
A binge is when you find yourself sitting in front of the fridge, mouth covered in chocolate and surrounded by biscuit wrappers, bread crusts and empty take-out cartons.0

I agree.
It was never about how much I consumed, it was that out of control, mindless shovelling of food down my throat that defined a binge rather than simply a day of over eating for me.0 -
Binging isn't about how many calories were eaten..it is about your mental state during the time of the binge. You feel out of control and like literally nothing or no one can stop you from shoving stuff in your mouth. You are almost in a trance. You are making any pain temporarily go away but then when the binge is over the guilt and shame set in. You can go out to a restaurant (ie cheesecake factory) with family/friends and easily consume thousands of calories quickly. but it is not a binge if you are in control and just enjoying the food/good time with friends0
