Depressed

I started using MFP six days ago, on Monday. I weighed 179 with a goal of 125. MFP recommended 1200 calories for me and I have followed that rigorously, even having some left over at the end of the day due to exercise. I went from no exercise to doing 30 minutes on the elliptical every evening and 20 minutes of weights. Elliptical gets me right at 400 calories. And...I'm seeing nothing. Same fat belly, same tight clothes....does this really work or am I wasting my time on another fad?

It's a slow change, but you're definitely not wasting your time. Give it some time and the weight loss will sneak up on you before you even realize it.

It's been 6 days. Give it more time. It took longer than 6 days to gain the weight. It's going to take hard work and dedication to take the weight off. Just have with it. Look up the threads re: success stories if you need motivation.

Visible change comes over a period of months, not days. This is a lifestyle, not a fad. Stick with it!

    Hi,
Make sure you eat all your 1200 cals a day especially if you're exercising as well. Add as many people on here as friends and look at their food diaries and open yours up to them for advice.
Try to eat carbs earlier in the day not after 6pm and lot of protein, nuts and oils. Don't waste cals on snack foods unless you need a treat which is fine...
Give it time and you will see results.
Good Luck and feel free to add me.
    Jules xx
  • Because the weight didn't come on overnight it will take time to come off. Keep at it. You might be the last person to realize the difference. Years ago a had a loss of 53lbs. I kept buying XXL and L clothes when I should have been in XS, S. No matter what my scale said I saw the same image.

Keep going, nothing beats a failure but a try. Oh and WTG on your dedication every morning.

    Do NOT give in.

I felt the same way in the very beginning. I didn't even want to get out of bed in the mornings and I dreaded counting my calories. Now it is just routine and I actually ENJOY working out, walking more regularly and watching what I eat.

You will find yourself happier and happier as the weeks go by.

    You CAN do it.

Hi, I lost 12 pounds but it took a month - a whole 30 days but that's nearly a stone. I'm roughly the same weight as you. Stick with it and you'll see change, and lasting change at that. As long as you've logged correctly and accurately every single thing you've eaten and drunk then it'll work. Also, as a tip, weigh yourself first thing in the morning as that's when your weight will be at your lowest. Let us know what happens after a couple of weeks!

It's taken me an entire year to lose 76 pounds. Don't expect results right away. You are your own worst enemy. Just keep reminding yourself that nothing worth having is easy to obtain. If you keep with it, stay honest about your intake and exercise, and forget about immediate results, eventually you'll be amazed at what you've accomplished.

It's still way too early to really see changes. Your body currently does not understand what's happening. You'll start seeing changes after several weeks (though I you may start to *feel* better long before that). Give it a couple of weeks before you start deeming this a failure. If you want to see a change in 6 days, do an unhealthy cabbage soup diet-- not this.
  • It takes time. I'm a really slow loser, I only just passed my fast half-stone mark after 5 1/2 months! But it's totally worth it to do it right no matter how slow the process. It's about changing your habits so you can gradually lose and then keep it off.
And the other benefits make it worth it, more energy, better mental health (I can suffer from depression), and a great confidence boost with every new achievement, every half pound, half inch, extra push up, longer run, new recipe, etc. Stick with it you can do it. If I can, ANYONE can :) Feel free to add me as a friend for mutual encouragement and advice!

Do NOT give up. You are not alone. Keep doing what you're doing and the weight will come off. Like others said, it took more than 6 days to put the weight on. It's a lifestyle change, not a fad. Good luck...hang in there.

When you start to exercise, you will gaine muscles. Muscles weigh more than fat. Therefore you might actually GAINE weigh to begin with, but still look like you lost some. Your on the right track. Keep going!
