Green Smoothie Recipes?

I have heard people talking about these for a while, and today I was reading about it. I grow some veg so it won't cost me any extra to add it in, and I think it could be a good way to get more of it in my diet. I'm lacking in iron so any way of getting more dark greens in is a great idea! But I don't know where to start in terms of tasty combinations, amounts, etc.

For greens at the moment I have spinach and kale, nasturtiums, loads of different herbs.
For fruit I have pears, apples, bananas, tangerines, kiwis, limes, blueberries, avocado, mango, pomegranate solo, and grapefruit.

Anyone got any good recipe or combination ideas for me?

Thanks in advance :)

Pineapple, Orange juice, carrot, spinach, works better if the pineapple is frozen but fresh works just as well :D

I just tried this about an hour ago and absolutely loved it:

    1 large handful of kale
    1 large handful of spinach
    1 granny smith apple
    1 kiwi

Juice all of these and blend with a banana. It's wonderful!

Kale and orange work perfectly together! then after that, you can add anything else you like! (berries, bananas, ect)

Bananas will cover about anything, so they're a base in all of my smoothies. Plus I like the taste of banana.

I'm working on finishing my second serving of a green smoothie right now (trying to get all my calories in, yeeeeesh), and this is the recipe I used:

    1 cup spinach
    1 cup banana
    1 cup broccoli
    1/2 cup carrot
    1/2 cup blueberries
    1/2 cup cantaloupe
    2 tablespoons peanut butter
    1 cup rice milk

Typically I freeze the cantaloupe and berries to thicken the shake up; today's was 1/2 cup fresh banana, 1/2 cup frozen, frozen berries and then some ice.

2 big handfuls of spinach or kale
    1 small banana
150ml fruit juice (I have orange and mango)
    1 big handful frozen blueberries
    2 tsp chia seeds
If I'm feeling very virtuous I add a tsp each of wheatgrass powder and spirulina.

    1/4 small pineapple
    1/2 stick celery
    1 inch chunk of cucumber
1 small handful of spinach leaves
1 small piece of peeled lime
2 apples - not Granny Smiths
    1/4 ripe avocado
    Ice

Juice the pineapple, celery, cucumber, spinach, lime and apples.
Place the ripe avocado flesh in the blender / smoothie maker along with the ice and juice mixture.
Give a good whiz for 45 seconds (or until smooth).
    Pour into glass - enjoy!

    Green monster
1 cup almond milk (I do vanilla flavor)
    banana
    1 cup spinach
peanut butter or flax power optional
    Blend it all together!

Triple B (this is what I've been having every morning)
    banana
beet (diced so it will blend)
1/3 cup blueberries (frozen work well because they make it icy)
    almond milk
    1 cup spinach

    Spinach
    Banana
    Almonds
    Raw Egg
    Protein Powder
    Green apple
Milk (almond, skim, organic, full cream)

It is AWESOME. I have it for breakfast or lunch, it's filling and really great for protein intake especially after a workout.
  • Wow, thank you so much everyone, there are some gorgeous ideas here, I'm excited to try some! Thank you! :)

(For anyone who's looking for ideas themselves, what I went for this morning was spinach, celery, kiwi, blueberries, and the juice of half a lime. Pleasantly surprised!)

    I use:
    handful spinach
4-5 frozen/fresh strawberries (if frozen, no ice is needed)
    handful frozen/fresh blueberries
    almond milk (1 cup)
    banana
I've been tempted to put some cottage cheese in and blend with the milk before adding everything else to purify it for extra protein

Put in blender and drink :)

I tried this the other day and it was very good. Although I substituted Light Vanilla Soy for the water, agave syrup for the Stevia and I added a tablespoon of ground flax.

    1 cup strawberries*, frozen
    1 cup kale*, loosely packed
    1/4 avocado, pitted and peeled
    1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 cup water
1/16th TEAspoon of Stevia (or honey)
    1-2 ice cubes, to thicken

    Nice items you have growing.

Banana helps every smoothie with greens in it. The taste is strong enough to not taste spinach (easy green) and kind of mask Kale.

    My main smoothie:

    Kale
    Blueberries
    Water

    For creamier:

    1 bunch of Kale
    2 handfuls Blueberries
    1 Mango
    2 cups Water

Spinach w/pears and Spinach w/apples always worked for me as well.

Add 1 tbs of wheatgrass powder to any smoothie to up the iron by 120 mg.
