You need to read a good, basic nutrition book. Play around with the food diary here and enter the foods you have questions about. It will show the macro contents and tell you how much protein is in them. You can also enter your total daily meal plan before you eat anything and see how much protein, carbs, fat and calories you'd consume....and then you can make adjustments.

By coincidence I have just been reading this article:

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/307688-high-protein-and-no-sugar-foods/

Perhaps you might find it helpful too!

But looking at what you have listed below I would personally avoid eating Bagels, Coco-Pops and
    Chips

And if you are eating white rice/pasta/bread - consider changing to brown/wholemeal.

When I first changed over you would swear that I was trying to poison my husband and son from their reactions
    - but they have adjusted and now think that the white versions all just taste bland and flavourless now.

    Good luck!

Fish is a great low-calorie source of protein! Salmon is my favorite; 3 oz of salmon has 21.7g of protein for only 127 calories. I'd advise against battered fish, though.

Try to remember that your kids' tastebuds are still young and try not to limit yourself to what they want. They might protest your healthier choices at first, but if you make better nutrition a consistent thing in your household, they will adapt and grow to love it.
  • Thank you for your answers I think I will buy a healthy eating recipe book from somewhere this week x

You dont have to avoid chips at all....just make them yourself and cook them in the oven.
Would agree with staying away from coco pops they are by no means healthy
I eat bagels just not daily...they are great at lunch with some soft cream cheese and salmon with salad
Think of this a s a lifestyle change! not a diet!
diets are fads! simple they set you up for short term goals....

    best of luck!
