I have a habit of going to the grocery store hungry. Mistake. I also go to the grocery store with no list..biggest mistake. Combine these two and I'm in trouble. So this time I'm different, I'm making a list right now but I want to know what healthy foods to get.

Lots of veggies (carrots and spinach FTW) and fruit for me; steaks and pork, yogurt, low-cal bread, deli meat and cheese cut thin, granola bars (only have at most one a day, each 100 cals or under) and a few healthy choice meals for my too-lazy-to-cook-anything nights.
There's some other variety but those are usually my staples each week. I'll add small snacks like dark chocolate items as well, but it's definitely a good idea to go shopping after you eat something otherwise EVERYTHING looks good.0 -
I use the "Out of Milk" app on my phone to make up my grocery list ahead of time. It does voice recognition so you don't have to do much typing to make up your list.
My personal list, not counting what I was buying for other people, this morning was, tomatoes, green onions, grapes, strawberries, rice "cheese" slices (I'm eating mostly vegan), whole wheat bread, baked tortilla chips, mushrooms, sauerkraut, whole wheat hot dog buns, and a package of veggie protein links.0 -

some kind of fish (oily fish is a good source of vitamins that aid weightloss)
lettuce (the greener and leafier the better)
red onions
spring onions
cucumber
brown rice
whole wheat pitta bread
potatoes or sweet potato (i think its called a yam)
kiwi's and oranges
broccoli
sweetcorn
leeks
soy sauce(low sodium)
thats all i can think of right now0 -

I write it out beforehand and then organize it by sections of the store like "produce", "dairy", "meat", "inner aisles", "paper products", "frozen", etc. So I'm not walking all over the store 14 times, lol

brown rice is wayyy better! and because it is less refined it takes alot more calories to digest takes a little longer to cook but not too much!0 -

Before I make a list I make a menu of dinners and lunches for the week. Breakfast is usually something like fruit, eggs, cereal, oatmeal or yogurt so I stock up on those as needed. Weekend Lunches we sort of forage from leftovers.
This week there are 2 nights I will not be eating at home (Family Picnic Sunday and dinner out today) so my plan looks like this:
Sat: BBQ Chicken with Zucchini and Potatoes
Sun: Family Picnic
Monday: Trout with Rice and Asparagus (dinner), Leftover broccoli salad and veggies (lunch)
Tuesday: Out (dinner), Leftover broccoli salad and veggies (lunch)
Wednesday: Egg and Asparagus Fritatta (dinner), Leftover Trout, Rice, Asparagus (lunch)
Thursday: Dumplings, Rice, Green Beans, Edamame (dinner), Salad, Cheese and Crackers (lunch)
Friday: Halibut with Salad and Buns
Grocery list:
Potatoes
Asparagus
Peppers
Onion
Green Beans
Salad
Carrots
Zucchini
Bagged Salad
Peaches
Apples
Berries
Lemon

Cheese (babybel wedges)

The fish I will pick up on my way home from work the days I am going to eat it. Same with the buns on friday, I'll just get two or some nice crusty bread from the grocery store so it is fresh when we are going to eat it.0 -
If I don't have a list, I like to stick to the outside walls. That's where all the fresh stuff is located in my grocery store. Granted there's some processed stuff too but not as much as the inside aisles. I never walk down the cookie aisle. I figure the less I know about the cookies, the better off I am.

Tomatoes
Berries, whatever is on sale.
Lean Ground Turkey
Chicken Breasts
Center Cut or Low Sodium Bacon (I don't buy it weekly but it's my treat, in moderation)
Canned beans, black or kidney beans
Tomato Sauce, no salt added, (I like buying plain tomato sauce and then adding spices to make it Mexican or Italian.)
Diced Tomatoes, no salt added
Whole Wheat Pasta
Bagel Thins
Natural Peanut Butter
Loaf of Whole Wheat Bread
Skim Milk
Greek Yogurt
Laughing Cow Cheese
and Real Sliced Cheese, no cheese food please.
Oh and frozen peas, we eat a lot of peas.0 -

My grocery list is somewhat ridiculous sometimes but I eat a different meal every night. At the moment I'm trying to build up vegan lunch ideas so I can rotate through them all week. I also should probably invest in a variety of breakfasts as well as I'm eating the same thing every morning.
I too separate my lists based on store section and a lot of things are swapped out based on the new meals for the week:
Produce:
Some type of pepper
Fruits for snacks like bananas, grapes, watermelon
A salad base.... romaine, spinach, or cabbage
Mushrooms, tomatoes if needed (different kinds like roma, slicing, cherry)
A couple avocados for lunches
Bulk:
Cereal
Cooking oils (Olive oil, agave nectar, sesame oil)
Refill spices or add new
Rice/pilaf/smaller noodles
Bread:
A loaf of some kind
French bread used as snack item or side dish
Dairy:
Almond yogurt for me
Jug of yogurt for hubs
Vegan cheese refilled
Almond milk/coconut milk refilled
Vegan butter refilled
Veganaise refilled
Frozen:
Meat supplements like sausages, chicken cutlets, burgers, sliced meat ect
Frozen veggies refilled
Middle-Food section:
Sauce/dressing needed... sometimes I mix my own up
Spaghetti pastas/pesto/sauce
Noodles
Canned beans/veg broth
Jars of sauce ect.0 -

Chicken, turkey & tuna fish.
You can do a lot of variations with any of the 3 and they are healthier than beef or pork.0 -
Oh, I forgot to mention. Instead of lettuces I use spinach leaves for my salads or sandwiches. I think it has a better flavor, fills me up like lettuce does and has a lot more nutritional value. Yummy!!!! In use fresh & frozen spinach depending on the meal.0

Only fruits I buy are blueberries, watermelon and cherries...occasionally grapes.
I never buy any drinks except for bottled water for myself... I do buy my husband sodas and lemonade

I have thought about looking into online shopping for grocery items... do you online shop and it ships to you? Where and how does it work for you?
Not sure I could do this.. as I don't mind going to the store every once in awhile. I'm one who likes to look around.. but I try not to.. I try to stick to the perimeter of the store.. the last few trips I believe I have done well..
I do use an app on my phone called Catch... it is a list app.. So far not bad.. not the best but not the worst.0 -
I shop at Trader Joe's and stick to as much organic content as possible.

We eat a lot of organic, free-range, boneless skinless chicken breasts. I find that the price for the Trader Joe's chicken is exactly the same as the local store's hormone-filled overpopulated chicken factory crud.
As far as fish go, I like to eat a salmon and trout.0
