Kindle Question

If I have an eBook that I purchased for Kindle, can I transfer it to another account when I'm done with it?

Basically, I want to give the book to someone when I'm done. Can I do that?

If not, is there another format/platform that's better for that? Thanks.

You cannot transfer the books to other accounts. You can loan them out for 14 days at a time, but then they will automatically be returned to your account after the 14 days.

Amazon allows publishers to decide on whether or not you can lend a book to a friend. Most publishers do not allow this. If they do, you are only allowed to lend the book one time.

If you have multiple devices on the same account (for example, I have a Kindle and so does my husband and they are both linked to our joint Amazon account), you can share a book between those devices.

    Hope that helps!

i don't think you can. I only think you can "loan" the book for 2 weeks. I don't know about other devices.

You can but only if you have a Prime membership with Amazon. Which is like $89 a yr. Or if the other kindle is registered to the same account.

Loaning does depend on the book. Some publishers allow it, some don't.

I personally stay away from all these branded readers and went with Aldiko.

Silly name, but I can sync it across android devices (i.e. my tablet) and it will take .epub books, which you can find for free all over the internet. No problems with restricted copies etc.

I borrow from the kindle owner's lending library alot...

This is what I found on Amazon:

"Kindle books can be loaned to another reader for a period of 14 days. The borrower does not need to own a Kindle -- Kindle books can also be read using our free Kindle reading applications for PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android devices. Not all books are lendable -- it is up to the publisher or rights holder to determine which titles are eligible for lending. The lender will not be able to read the book during the loan period. Books can only be loaned once, and subscription content is not currently available for lending."

My daughter and I share books. Amazon allows 5 devices to be registered to your account.
The other person must register their Kindle to your account. Get the book (download it from the archive) then they can register on their own account again.

dagnabbit. Is there another device or platform that lends itself better to giving books to other people when I'm done reading it? My wife and I have have different Amazon accounts and devices. Quite frankly, I don't want to see her trashy romance novels on my device but she's finished reading the Game of Thrones Series and I want it on my Kindle account.

I also want her 700+ page Certification training materials but dangit, there's no way I can read that in 14 days. (sigh)

When more than once device are on the same account, it doesn't automatically download everything to each device. You have to go into your cloud content and choose to download it to your device. So you and your wife could register them on the same account and you'll have joint cloud content, but then you can pick and choose what you each want on your individual devices.

You don't have to see other people's books - you use the 'archive' feature to add or remove books from your device. When you order on amazon, using a linked account, you can direct it to the kindle you want it to go on - so on mine, I have 'J's kindle', 'T's kindle' and 'Granpa's kindle'. The book being ordered goes where I want it to....

    Have you tried swapping devices?

Here's how to do it. Both of you put your devices on a table, then pick up the other's device. Swap back when necessary.

I do know of one device that's got a very simple lending process and publishers don't enforce any kind of restriction.

    It's called a book...

If it is just an issue with your wife you should really share an account and just send the books to your separate devices. My whole family shares one account and we have..6 Kindles on it? We get one fine doing it that way.
