Exercising while sick

For the past 4 days I've been hit hard with a serious head cold/flu. I feel like I'm losing ground on the progress i was making running. All i want to do is get out and exercise but I feel like I've been hit by a freight train! Just curious to what others do while sick to get in some sort of burn?

Rest until you're better. It'll only make it harder to recover if you wear your body out anymore.

rule of thumb, no fever and everthing aboce neck, you can exercise with caution. If it is below the neck, don't. Bottom line is to get well where you can proceed. I

I usually do just a little (maybe walking or light elliptical) and it sometimes helps me feel better.

I'm sitting at my dining room table in a sweater and jeans with Kleenex shoved up my nose. Making lunch for my kids = exercise today. Yuck.

I can totally relate. Hopefully you'll feel better soon! I was contemplating trying to get in a low cardio Jillian workout.

Got the same thing you do right now and it sucks. I rode my stationary bike last night but I wasn't going very fast.

I tried doing Zumba a couple days after I thought I was over a really bad cold....BAD IDEA! I was so dizzy and nauseous. I ended up throwing up in a plastic bag in my car on the way home (sorry TMI). I had to really take it easy the next few days after that. Don't push your body. Rest up!

Lots of fluids and rest. If you rest and take care of yourself, you can largely kick a cold in 3 - 5 days. If you push yourself, you can be stuck with it for weeks. Trust me, I know. I'm stupid that way (idiot that I am, I always choose option 2).

For me, exercise helps me get better more quickly. The physical activity has been shown to boost your immune system and your metabolism. Plus, for some reason, when I start breathing harder, my sinuses get a little less stuffed up.

    That's just me though.

If you're absolutely stir-crazy, you're probably not as sick as you think, and light exercise won't hurt you.

The key is not overdoing it. :)

I had a cold once and I kept on my training schueldue. When I ran it cleared up my cold for a little bit and it made me feel better. But I also think that there's an extent on how sick you're feeling and then if you should exercise or not. I say keep exercising unless you feel like you're going to throw up or pass out, or if you're really sick. But besides those 3 exclusions I say keep exercising!

I have a 5K on Saturday and I was really looking forward to pushing myself and obtaining a new PR...wouldn't you know it, last night I came down with a cold. I stayed home today from work and will probably stay home tomorrow so I can continue to rest. I want to be in the best shape possible for Saturday. I feel fine below the next. I am just a little congested. Any tips on clearing up the nasal passages before Saturday? :ohwell:
