How have I managed to put weight on!? What am I doing wrong?

I don't understand it, I've put on like stupid pounds...and I've been so so good! I've not strayed from my target cals, I work out everyday or at least do some sort of exercise everyday...ARRRG!

Take measurements and go by those instead of the stupid scale.
    Eat more.
Get a heart rate monitor sometimes the cals burned are over/under estimated. It all depends on your HR (ave hr.)

Have you been taking measurements?? I had a weight gain of 10 pounds but lost 2 inches off of my waist! It was a big eye opener!

Are you having Lady Days? I generally put on 5-8 pounds of water during my period.

maybe you portions are too big? take some measurements so when the scale is not being kind you can see change with out the scale. for me when i got stuck I found my portions had gotten too big cut the size and bam back to loseing. Good luck.

Also, try drinking more water. I checked out your food diary and for the past 2 days you have no water listed...are you not drinking any or did you forget to include it? Water really helps to flush things out, if you don't drink enough I think it makes your body hold on to the extra fat more.

i put on 10 lbs since may. but my measurements are the same. women's bodies are kinda fickle and weird about the water retention and the hormones. the closer you get to goal, the harder it is to see your progress on the scale.

    a little story:

    last october i weighed 135
this february i weighed 123 and started lifting heavy
today i weigh 135. BUT my body fat % in october was 25. Now my bf% is 20. That's a loss of 5% bf. And my measurements are pretty much the same as they were when I was 126 (not quite the 123 measurements, but it is that TOM).

So don't stress it. If you are eating well and working out, and your measurements are relatively the same, you're good <3

I always gain a 2-5 lbs the next morning after weight training the night before, from water.... not fat... most likely its water.

Most likely your chronically low calories have retarded your metabolism. Eat at a moderate deficit to your TDEE to succeed in a comfortable way, for the long term.

stress is a terrible weight loss problem. you hold all your weight in your stomach region because your body is thinking it's about to go to war or famin. read up about "apple shaped" bodies and figure you what's best for you...i for one gave up on the guessing game. I've been at this for 2 years, so i'm going to the doctor thursday. If all else fails, make an appointment with your dr. and get some questions answered.

This is the amount of calories I have been advised to eat on several websites, for weight loss...infact a lot of them were below 1200kcals and I felt that wasn't enough.

Me and my retarded metabolism apologise.

At 23, unless you are a pixie, 1200 is probably the amount given to you to lose 2lbs a week, right? Set it to a less aggressive rate of loss.

You retarded metabolism is fine. LOL How long has it been since you haven't lost weight? Ignore the monthly fluctuations. Bodies do that.

I think 90% of the "what am I doing wrong?' people the problem is they're listening to the scale and they're not being patient. And 90% of the advice they get here is EAT MORE.

Do you know why they are suggesting the numbers they are suggesting? Did they say anywhere that to lose weight you can't go with any other number? I've been advised between 1200-900 on weight loss sites. I did not like this, so I started researching and ended up NETTING 1650 and lost a pound a week until I was 5'7 and 120 pounds. Don't believe the internet, believe knowledge. Your retarded metabolism will thank you. Look up what TDEE, BMR, and RMR stand for. There are calculators online everywhere, and the math is everywhere as well (including the wikipedia sites). Or you could just play with this:

    Calc: http://bwsimulator.niddk.nih.gov/

There came from this scientific paper:

    Study: http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(11)60812-X/fulltext

It was published based on the quantification of the effect of energy imbalance on bodyweight. I was talking to the guy who made the calculator, it let's you play with all the numbers mentioned above. They take the changes in the human metabolism into account, looking at the fact that a 3500 calorie deficit equaling 1 lb of weight loss isn't that percise (which is what MFP bases its info on).

They didn't say you had a "retarded metabolism" as in the adjective retarded, they said you have retarded your metabolism, as in the verb which means "o slow up especially by preventing or hindering advance or accomplishment"

    just fyi

also I agree with coder gal. I promise unless you're like 4 foot 6, you're not eating enough if you're eating 1200 calories.

Just from experience of working out for 2 years and not losing weight on 1200 cals a day -

    UP YOUR CALORIES.

I dropped 7 lbs in a month after upping my calories to 1800. Seriously!

Also look into clean eating. My middle didn't shrink until I cut out refined sugar and white carbs. Fudge bars should be an occassional treat, not a daily snack.
