Hey all!
I've decided to do my first 5K this September (September 8th to be exact).
I'm super excited about it! www.colormerad.com
I'm not in the best of shape, so I want to do C25K to train for it.
I was looking over the C25K plan and I feel like I can start off at week 4 or 5 and do it comfortably instead of starting off at week 1.
I just don't want to get bored and quit.

Anyone start C25K and "skipped" a few weeks or heard of others doing so? How were their results?

    I would start at week one. Even if your cardiovascular fitness is prepared for week 4 or 5 does not mean your legs and joints are. If you run too much too fast you risk shin splints, plantar fasciitis, IT band issues, among other things. All of these are caused in part by the jarring of running. By starting at the beginning, you are giving your joints, bones, tendons, and leg muscles a chance to adapt to the new method of exercising. Most C25K plans are about 9 weeks so you would have plenty of time to finish one before September.

    I'd normally say skip it but after reading that about your muscles etc maybe your right. I think I got away with some stuff because I was young when I did it but I could easily have picked up strains and injuries all over the show. You've got just less than 3 months to train for it, it's plenty of time. You'll kill it and I think you'll surprise yourself :) (coming from someone that can count on 2 hands how many times they've ran this year and still did a 10k in 44 mins)

    This. My cardiovascular health is pretty awesome, but when I first started C25K, the first week KILLED my legs! I had to take a couple of extra days off just because my legs weren't used to the running involved. I would try to do week 1 first and see how you feel from there. Good luck!

    I would maybe do week one, and if its not a workout, do the first day of week two.

    For me, I ended up having to lengthen the first week by two days because it was killing me, but since then its been smooth sailing. Still, I wouldn't skip a week without trying it.

    I've been running on my own 5 min run (jog I guess 4.5 MPH) then 5 min brisk walk (3.5 MPH) which is like the week 4: 5 min walk, 3 min run, 1.5 min walk, 5 min run, 2.5 min walk, 3 min run, 1.5 min walk, 5 min run.
    I have a bad knee (tendonitis) from an old rugby injury that I have problems with if I don't wear a brace but that's pretty much it.

    Which one in Houston did you sign up? I ran the 5K in the Houston Chevron Marathon in Jan weighing over 270 plus pounds. YOU can do it, believe me YOU CAN! I'm planning on running two more before the year is over the Turkey Trot and the Jingle Bell Run.

    Oh and I'm doing an encore of C25K--- today was day one week1. I never finished the program when I first attempted it.

    I started C25K and am on Week 6 now. I love it! Endurance was a slight issue for me, but my legs were the biggest. They still feel like jello sometimes haha. I would try Week 1 for a day and then if its too easy, go to Week 2, etc. Not just jump up to Week 5.

    I'm thinking about starting C25K when I'm done with 30 Day Shred (on day 14 now). I'm new to working out and I'm absolutely the furthest thing from a runner. I would love to be able to just go for a run and feel good about it rather than feel like I'm gonna die. Is it too hard or is it something a total non-runner can do? how much of a time commitment is it? I need something I can stick to so I can lose 15-20 lbs.

    I did not run at all before I did this....Now I'm a fan!!!!! Yea it took me awhile to get to the "Like Running" part haha, but i do!

    I wouldn't even say I like running, per se. It's a great work out so I like that aspect.
