complex carbs

I was wondering does eating complex carbs like sweet potatoes, brown rice etc make u fat? is better to eat complex carbs for muscle growth then simple carbs?

    Well eating them sure hasn't made me fat, and never did. I have lost and maintained this weight just fine eating brown rice, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes and occasionally, very occasionally, wholegrain bread.

    No. The only thing that will make you fat is eating more calories than you burn. Having more fiber in your diet from whole grains is a great thing.

    Excess calories make you fat; you should be avoiding simple carbs and eating mostly, if not all, complex carbs.

    So what exactly is the theories (i say theories cuz i'm sure everyone has an opinion lol) on complex carbs vs simple. Are they just healthier as a whole or are they more filling, better for gaining muscle... what? just curious what the basis is behind the argument - i haven't researched it myself...

    A good rule of thumb is to just try to avoid anything high glycemic except after a workout.
