As far as your weight loss goes (read fat loss), it will only hurt you if it causes you to go over your total daily calorie goal.0 -
I know we all have different goals, but i go over my protein limit EVERY day

As long as you don't have any medical conditions where excess protein could be harmful to you, then the answer would be no.0

Make good choices, and it will help you get to a healthy weight without losing Lean Body Mass, and that is awesome.0

MFP's default protein goals are too low in my opinion. I view protein as a *minimum*, carbs and calories as a maximum.0
-
MFP guidelines are very low....that said any protein goals are more of a minimum than a maximum. I would shoot for 1g protein / 1 lb LBM. .3g fat / lb and then fill in the rest with whatever that keeps you under your calorie goal.0
-
AMAZING. Eat all the protein you can. MFP rarely sets people at the amount of protein they should get. I eat 120-150 g per day

WHOA!!! Be careful!!! If you go over 60g of protein too many times, you will develop bulky, veiny muscles over the period of a few months. And since a pound of muscle weighs more than fat, you're going to get super heavy.

Don't go over your protein amount. You'll not only put on fat, but you'll shut down your kidneys.0

Agree with the posters here: MFP's standards for macronutrients (carbs, fat, protein) are off - pretty high in carbs at the cost of protein. Eat more of it.
You can actually change your macro goals too so your goal is to get more protein.0 -
Protein from meat, GOOD. Protein from powder, YUCK.
*waits for smacks from shake drinking friends...you know you love me*0 -

I've increased my protein intake to 40% of my overall calorie intake, carbs is 40% and fat 20%.
Increased protein intake is good if you do a lot of exercise it helps to repair muscle.
Ive been doing this for 4 months and have lost every week and it works for me, although I do appreciate everyone is different and has different goals and activity levels.
You will only put on weight if you eat more than you burn.0 -
As long as you are within your calorie range, it's great! I TRY to go over my protein numbers every day.0
-
I set my goal at approx 0.65g of protein and 0.35g of fat per lb ot total body weight - make sure I hit them and the rest of my calories just fall wherever.
As others have said, the MFP settings are really low and unless you have any pre-exiting medical issues, then there is absolutely no problems with going over.
ETA: and there is nothing wrong with getting some of your protein from protein powder/drinks.0 -

Joe must be playing that game where everything he says is WRONG!
In all seriousness. The protein settings are WAY too low. You should change it to be higher...0 -

haha I love the muscle weighs more than fat argument!!! a pound is a pound! Although, I will admit, I used to say this as an excuse for not losing weight previously! Excuses excuses0 -
