New at this....Sonya

Hello everyone, I'm sort of new to this type of monitoring however, it has worked for several of my friends so... I have decided try it. One thing's for sure, you definitely don't eat the way you often portray yourself. I think that is because it is how you would like to eat. I'm diabetic so this should prove to really be profitable for me. Right now I'm 5'9" and want to lose about 70lbs... Some days is seems doabe, other days impossible. I believe it's mostly because I have set my mind to get it off for good. I have lost about 30lbs by exercising at the YMCA but I've got a lot to go. Therefore if you have any tips, I'm open...thanks!:smile:

    Welcome Sonya,

Best tip I have to offer is be gentle with yourself. There are gonna be days (weeks even) where you slip and so long as you don't turn those slip-ups into give-ups then your long term trend will be downwards.

Also, learn to love food, real food I mean, the kind that comes off trees and animals and out of the ground, not the kind that comes in a box or tin from a lab. If you develop a love affair with real food, you'll probably find that the weight comes off without you even having to try.

And tip#3 - go easy. If you approach it as a race you'll inevitably fail. Make slow, sustainable lifestyle changes. Don't "diet".

    Hope those help.
  • Hello Sonya and captain

Im new at this too. Im not diabetic ... not yet. (thank goodness) I want to loose a lot of weight. Mostly for my health but I also want to be able to have a baby. Im running out of time. This really is my last chance. I have had several doctors suggest bariatric surgery to me and its made me very sad that I have let myself get so lazy and also mad at myself for not taking care of me.

So Im going to feel sorry for myself today, but tomorrow Im going to do something about it! Im getting a plan in motion tonight.

    I can do this.

each day is a new day and a new beginning. Never ever give up. You are going to slip up and when you do get right up and start fresh right away. MFP has a lot of wonderful positive support here to keep you motivated.
