Go to hell, sugar!

Sounds like I'm telling some sassy lass to go to hell.

It seems pretty impossible to avoid hitting 150% of my sugar goals. I rarely eat bad sugar, maybe once every couple weeks I'll candy binge. So many of my healthy foods contain a small amount of sugar in them, and when I add a piece of fruit or two, it goes way over. Seems a bit pointless to track it, I'm becoming afraid of fruits... I noticed that a lot of foods in the database that are considered to be good sources of complex sugars don't even list sugar. Should I just stop tracking sugar since I don't have problems with simple sugars?

turn it off or set a higher custom goal if you're not concerned about it.

I'm not sure there are "complex sugars" ?

Unless you're trying to stay/get extremely lean it's nothing to really worry about more than any other carb.

Oh, I thought there were like processed sugars which are artificially created and therefore break down way easier. Makes sense, we create it with the most cost effective / streamlined process we can, therefore chemically it's going to be easier to break down.

I don't know the details though I'm just guessing.

unless you have a medical condition that prohibits sugar, you are already eating in calorie goals, so you sugar is going to be just fine. I took that and sodium off my tracking list. neither really matter.

far as your body is concerned, sugar from a grape is the same as sugar from a snickers.

If you don't eat "bad" sugars, then don't track sugar.

Actually I am trying to work on cutting some more fat off so I can feel better about a ~4000 cal/day bulk lol. After going through that first part of the weight lifting phase I felt like I could have had better gains. Even after you told me to boost it up to 3000 calories. I'm pretty sure my metabolism is ridiculously high now and I need more. Plus I work out too much.

Glad you said this, I needed to hear it.

Yeah I took sodium off too, so pointless lol. Turns out I'm great with my water/sodium intake so I don't really care if I have some soup one day that throws it way over.

Gonna take sugar off it's just giving me negative numbers everyday and it's pissing me off. All the sugars I get come with lots of other nutrients, so I'm not gonna worry about it.
  • As long as you're getting your sugars from natural sources you're fine! Apple vs candy bar, the apple has the fiber to move the sugar through you where the candy bar is just like eating spoon fills of sugar. That's how I've understood it anyways.

As far as I understand it, terms like simple and complex sugars are all based on the glycemic index. It tested how sugars increased insulin response. The problem with the test that determined these results was that these different sugar sources were tested in a fasted state and by themselves. The problem is that these sugars will react differently when eaten with or after other carbs, fats and proteins. A so-called simple sugar will react almost the same as other carbs when eaten in a normal diet and unless you have a medical condition is really not worth the effort to worry about.

Now my info might be way off so make sure you do your own research. : )
