My husband takes Depakote - at some doses, his appetite is crazy, at others, he has medically induced anorexia. It's a crap shoot.

Depakote is known and documented to cause weight gain. It's something to keep in mind. If you're find yourself needing a snack, find something small and healthy - a string cheese, container of applesauce, or handful of nuts.

I don't know if it's any one thing that will affect the Depakote's influence on your weight. You may have to play with cutting carbs but upping protein.

Something to also be careful of - if you lose weight and you're taking this med for certain ailments, you may have to get your dosage tweaked to avoid high ammonia levels and your liver working too hard to metabolize the drug.
