Wish me luck

Hi, my names Jacob, from Oregon. I am 18 years old and I was always picked on growing up, I've always been skinny and weak. I am sick of looking like a kid, being blown over by the wind, and lacking confidence with girls.

Right now I am just underweight with a BMI of 18.4, at 5'10 and 128 pounds. I am trying to gain weight over the summer so I can get back to college (go ducks) looking good and more manly. My goal is to gain a pound+ per week on average through summer (Gaining at least 15 pounds). I am going to exercise at least 5 times a week, and eat hopefully about 3,000 calories a day (I've never kept track, but I'm positive I have a fast metabolism). My plans for attack are some 10 pound weights for watching TV, treading water almost every day - I did this two days ago when I started, and jeez my legs and *kitten* were worked out - and going to the gym in my apartment complex for some more heavy lifting, once I work up enough strength with the other activities.

Any words of encouragement are appreciated, or if you've gone through a similar situation, any tips? (diet, exercises?)

  • I am trying to lose weight and get fit and if you need to gain weight to become healthier and more self confident than more power to you!! I wish you luck and am happy for you that MFP has a "gain weight" setting! Take pictures of yourself now and as you make progress to record your look and that will help with your self confidence too!

You should ask some of the guys/girls on here for advice with the weights. I am guessing low reps, heavy weights is what you need to be doing. Check out the exercise forum and ask in there. Some really well qualified people there will prob give you free info
  • Thanks everyone. This is the most active discussion board I think I've been on. Nice to see other people as motivated as I am! I'm gonna do this every day, push myself.

Groovyfire: I took a picture tonight

Thebigcb: I will definitely look into the fitness section, sounds interesting and probably super helpful for an inexperienced exerciser like me.

I'm going to go do one of those on demand fit tv 20 minute workout things on the television. Thanks for the motivation guys!

You just go for it! You sound determined and ready. The only weigth I use to gain is the unwanted kind, but I´m sure, with the right exercise and food, you will do fine. Remember to be patient and eat healthy. I used to be skinny but very unhealthy, because I could. Don´t be like that! And I believe in you! You just go for it. Good luck!
