Best quality protein bars

I am fairly new at buying/eating protein bars and I have read a lot of topics on this at My Fitness Pal. After reading reviews, I understand that we all have different physical needs and dietary issues, let alone different taste.

I would like to know which protein bars have the highest quality protein in them? I don't want to settle for a lower quality protein, just for taste. Of course, if the taste is horrible, I won't waste my money on them. I usually eat real food for my protein, but sometimes you need something portable. One time I was out and didn't plan on the doctors visit going over like it did, so I picked up a protein bar at a grocery store.

Thanks!

In terms of quality ingredients, Quest Protein bars are unparalleled in both the sports nutrition and health markets. They only use 20g worth of whey protein isolate and milk protein isolate. No lesser quality protein or fillers which are commonly used to bump up amino acid profiles. Its also a low-net carb/sugar bar with 4-6g of non-fiber carbs and 1-3g sugar. The natural line (they make two lines) is the way to go if you do not want sucralose, which they use a very trivial amount of. The natural line is sweetened naturally with stevia, lo han guo and erythritol. Almond butter is the base of the bar, and most sugars/carbs come from the almonds.

They make 11 total flavors (5 natural line) and my favorites are Cinnamon Roll and Coconut cashew. The natural line bars tend to be much softer and chewier out of the wrapper. Typically people microwave the harder bars for a few seconds and they come out very moist and soft, such as the Chocolate Brownie or Apple Pie.

This is the ingredient list for Coconut Cashew:
Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate, Isomalto-Oligosaccharides, Almonds, Water, Erythritol, Coconut, Cashews, Sea Salt, Natural Flavors, Lo Han Guo and Stevia.
    Calories: 170
    Fat: 6g
    Sodium:270
    Carbs: 24g
    Fiber: 17g
    Sugar: 2g
    Sugar Alcohols: 6g
    Protein: 20g

My second favorite bar in terms of quality (and taste) is the VPX Zero Impact bars, which are higher calorie meal replacement bars. In actuality, they are closer in texture to brownies and offer two very tasty, rare flavors: German Chocolate and Pumpkin Pie (both of which taste very good a few seconds in the microwave). Their ingredient list is a lot longer, but they rank among the top in regards to quality ingredients.

This man is in the know. Quest bars are awesome.
  • I'm also all for the Quest bars. They have so much fiber in them and taste great if you microwave them! I haven't tried all the flavours but definitely love the Chocolate brownie and peanut butter chocolate ones.
