I have about 70 lbs to lose and I have a huge fear that I will have saggy or loose skin when I am done...is there anyway to avoid this? and has anyone else lost a large amount of weight without a problem with loose skin?

I have lost almost 100 pounds and still have around 60 to go. I am pleasantly surprised that I don't seem to have a lot of loose skin. Maybe it's genetics or the fact that I have lost slowly so my skin has a chance to bounce back. Just in the past few months, I have started running and doing more strength training so I am hoping that will help me out the rest of the way.0

I could have written this post. I am actually fear that I will look far worse with flabby, puffy skin! I have over 100+ to lose.
Will my legs actually get smaller? Will my knee? My dr. said my knees have to be smaller in order to be considered for partial knee replacement. I can't even imagine my body getting smaller-just a big fluffy cauliflower looking blob. I know this sounds nuts, but I have this fear.0 -
It's a valid concern. Skin can (usually will) shrink/reduce, especially if you are younger, but it takes a very long time and is not a guarentee.
That being said, you will get smaller when you lose weight. It's logical.
But, for reference (and I hope encouragement), my son has lost 65 lbs since Jan, and there is no "extra skin" anywhere but his stomach, and even that is going away. He can definately take off his shirt. To qualify, he was a body builder before and wasn't super fatty (he's losing to go into the military), but he thought for certain his chest would look like crap cause of his pecs being so big. Nope. It's a little loose I think you might say, but it's "melting" away with each week.
Good luck to you all!!0 -
I fear this as well! My first goal is 70 pounds and I'm worried that after I will have that belly skin thing going on However, I am not letting that slow me down! I know it took years to put this weight on and it will take a long time to lose it... I'm hoping that my skin will regain elasticity as I loose and eventually catch up with my sexy self Good luck to you!!!!0

Sadly, I lost 164 lbs the first go around and have a TON of extra skin. So much on my belly that you can't see my belly button. I am hoping to tone up a little, but I know in the end it is going to require surgery. But, at least I am here trying!!0

You have to consider that you actually grew more skin when you were heavier... losing the weight basically just deflates it. How much loose skin you'll have will depend on how much you grow, where it is, and your genetics.
No special exercises or diet or creams will fix the fact that you grew more skin. It's up to luck.0
