Eating Healthy in College... HELP pleaseeee !

I kinda eat relatively healthy (compared to most other college students my age), but I've realized that still I could be eating MUCH better. I think I understand portions and eating a balanced diet, but it's really hard to actually get the healthy foods and meals. I live on campus so I don't really have the resources or time to grocery shop and cook all the time. I DO have the campus cafe though. What are ways that I can eat healthy there (or things I should avoid)? What are some easy (and less costly) foods I could buy and meals that I could incorporate into my diet? Oh& SNACKS  Any suggestions on those are gladly accepted too!
SN: For the most part I try to stay active, but I am trying to make a lifestyle change and really dedicate myself to being healthier. I have recently started the INSANITY program and looking at the meal plan (and other topics on MFP) has really opened my eyes to my eating habits! I don't have the ability to incorporate all those meals and foods, but I want to take on a healthier diet.
Any other tips are welcomed too ----> I'm a newbie!

Welcome! Are you in a dorm room? Can you have a little frig? Does the campus cafe have many options? If not, do request that they get more. My U had a food court with a lot of healthy options.
Easy healthy snacks can be string cheese, nuts, seeds, fruits, nut butters, yogurt, I do keep some protein bars around, dried fruit (if fresh is impossible), ...0 -
I'm in a dorm and I'll actually be in an apartment style this year (which has a kitchen& fridge) so I want to try to cook if I can get the groceries.
Ummm... the cafe has a main line (with a hot course), international, deli/ salad bar, always cereal and a grill. The food court was just renovated, but there aren't really any healthy options except for maybe a couple of salad options.
Ill definitely try the snack option though!0 -
Not to be a negative nancy, but I'm hoping your university cafeteria is better than mine was... our healthy options were slim to none.
I'm not sure what your cafeteria offers... My go-to foods in the cafeteria were things like the salad bar, soup stations, fresh fruit, and omelette station. (If you can, find out if they will provide you with the nutritional information. I ate green beans from my cafeteria daily until I found out that they were 200 calories/.5 cup serving. Yikes!)
Also, take advantage of that university gym! And take solace in the fact that living in an apartment-style dorm room with a kitchen where you can cook your own food will do wonders. No lie, when I stopped eating cafeteria food and had my own kitchen again, I saw five pounds slip off in a six week period.
Best of luck! Hope this helps0
