So I have a question. When they are referring to limiting sugar for women to 100 calories a day, which is equivalent to 24grams of sugar, are they also referring to sugar from fruit? I never know what to do with sugar from fruit. Also, would love to hear other peoples opinions on it.

The whole "fruit sugar, is it sugar sugar?" issue comes up quite a lot, and there's a whole range of opinion on it.

Personally, I have reduced my fruit after starting to track my diet, but I still go over on my sugars by a little bit every day and I don't worry about that if it's almost all fruit sugars. Fruit sugars tend to still be attached to the fibers that lower the speed at which your body is forced to absorb the sugar, and they come with nutrients that are good for you.

My opinion, for what it is worth, is: Fruit sugars are not necessarily the paragon of healthy virtue, but if you can use an apple to avoid eating the same calories of refined sugar processed foods, you're doing your body a HUGE favor. Don't go overboard, but if you enjoy fruit by all means make it part of your daily eating habits.

Especially if fruit is your replacement for candy, chips, or emptier sugars.

This is truly scary. Sugar is something I have a HUGE problem with and have been trying to tackle for a while now without much success. :(

From a (limited) physiological stand point... I don't understand how fruit sugar and table sugar or any other sugar are any different (except cellulose), your body breaks them down and stores them the same.

"The big picture solution is in managing total caloric balance with a predominance of minimally refined foods and sufficient physical activity."

    Smart man.

Thank you for the link but he's just offering his own take and linking to meta-analysis studies that don't say anything from what I can tell. And in conclusion it appears he throws out the studies he links to and states, "Figuring that both sides are biased, the middle figure between the two camps is roughly 50 grams for active adults." He just pulled that number out of his *kitten* for all intents and purposes?

So I guess my question after feeling jerked around by all of these claims is, are there clinical studies out there that show sugar consumption raises triglycerides and blood pressure or not?

Or a clinical study showing that someone eating excess amounts of calories from sugar gains more fat that someone eating excess calories from fat or protein?

Thanks for all your input everyone. The studies that they refer to later in the video, were pretty interesting especially the one with the young people being kept in the lab environment. The part about the tumors growing with sugar intake was interesting too. So I believe there was something to learn from it. I'm not informed enough to agree or disagree with anything. I
