My first weigh in on MFP

I joined MFP last Friday because I found I was putting on weight despite going to the gym 3 or 4 times a week.

I've just about lost 0.8 lbs. I know a loss is still a loss, but I'm slightly disappointed because I've really tried hard this week and gone above and beyond my exercise goals. When I wouldn't even diet or exercise I could lose this amount with no effort just by eating less, but now it feels like I have to run a million miles just to lose 1 lb! Here's my exercise diary since Sunday.

& here's my net calories report. Ignore today!

Do you think I'm eating too little calories and my body is just holding on to them? Should I ease up on my sugar intake? Help!

YOU ARE EATING TOO LITTLE!!! O.o

Remember you, as a woman, should NEVER eat less than 1200cal a day, no matter what... :) Your body is angry with you and will not let go of anything till you give it more food! trust me! :)

Check your BMR and see your minimums and maximums and eat between those 2 without eating less than your minimum or more than your maximum...

    Keep up posted!

Edit: I only just re-read your post... AND you are exercising??? EVEN WORSE! You should eat your minimum + some of your workout calories back!!

And remember that muscles weigh more than fat. If you haven´t been exercising that much before, you´re gaining more muscles. You might be losing more fat than you know, but your muscles "hides" it.

And yes, I would say that you eat to little. Eat more, but eat the rigth kind. Don´t give up! Keep up your intentions and work. It wont be long until you´ll se some results.
  • Well I've been eating at least 1200 calories a day, except for yesterday when I was just under 1000, but because I'd burned around 300 cals it says I'd only eaten around 600. I've tried to eat back my exercise calories but sometimes I just can't eat anymore!

I think I'm going to try to eat 80% of my exercise calories this week and see if it helps. I love avocado and have some in my fridge, so I'm going to snack on those on days I'm under because they are quite high in calories. Fingers crossed!

Protein powder in almond milk is a good way to get a lot of protein and not too many calories and carbs. Your body needs the protein to burn.

    Good luck!

I've never tried almond milk but I see a lot of people here have it in their food diaries, might give it a shot!

One thing to keep in mind - you don't have much weight to lose, based on your profile. The less you have to lose, the slower it will/should come off. This is because the closer you are to your goal weight, the less your body can handle the huge deficits required to lose the higher lbs per week. When you get down to 15, 20 lbs left, you should only be looking to lose 1/2 lb, maybe 1 lb max per week. Do yourself a favor, and if your "goal" on MFP is currently set to 2 lbs per week (as many peoplet set it), change it to 1/2 or 1 lb per week, and then follow MFP's calorie recommendations. Eat back at least some of your exercise calories - you need to keep your body properly fueled.

You are def not eating enough. Most of the days your under 1200 calories which is a bit crazy. Please up your calorie intake then you will see the weight come off. Also measure yourself because the scale fluctuates so much that isn't a real indicator of weight loss.

In addition to what the other folks have said, you might want to go to a store with a sewing department, and grab a measuring tape. The cloth ones that are I believe 60 inches long or so.

Start putting the measurements for neck, waist, and hips in the weigh in area. You may discover you are losing inches, but keeping pounds, since you're toning up.

I only say this since you're going to the gym, if you're lifting at all, and you've hit a plateau, you may have hit that sweet spot where you're gaining the same amount of muscle, as fat you are losing.

It's really good, too. I like the Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla.

I've been up and down the past few years depending on when I get on/off MFP and I can definitely relate. Honestly, the first week of tracking is the hardest for me because it takes SUCH effort and it is constantly on your mind. Then to see .8 on the scale can be very disheartening. But, after you get used to the site and tracking your food it becomes more second nature and you don't focus on it as much. Then, when you feel like you only had an okay week, .8 pounds will seem like a huge victory! Just keep hanging in there, keep tracking, and slowly the .8s will add up! You can do it!

Also, I would recommend that you eat back more of your exercise calories. I hear you when you say that you aren't hungry anymore but your body needs fuel if you are going to be exercising that much! Just space it out throughout the day - that will keep your metabolism up too!

Like the others response, you are not eating enough. You need to keep close to 1200 daily. Good luck
  • Here's my net calories report for today. I ate back all of my exercise calories, and was even 34 calories over haha! I haven't got the healthiest of diets right now but I'm working on it, especially because I'm due major surgery in 3 months and want to be as healthy as possible.

Going to aim to keep my graph at 1200 or higher from now on!

Thanks for all your responses :)
