Going through "the change" and trying to loose weight

Hi,
I'm at that age where it hurts to even say it, but I'll just put it out there: I am menopausal. Ick. At any rate, I used to be pretty skinny and could eat pretty much whatever I wanted to. Then, in the last 5-7 years the weight just creeped up and surprised me, so in addition to being 52, I feel dumpy so it makes me feel even older. I tried being pretty consistent with exercise and it didn't do much, so then a friend turned me on to this site. I've lost 4 pounds, but it's been 25 days and I was hoping I would've lost more. I am hoping to loose about 20. It is so hard in that I am used to eating what I want, and I am an emotional eater to boot. I love cheeses LOL. There have been a few days I have gone over my allotted intake allowance.

Any advice, motivation would be truly appreciated.

I'm there too. I lose an average of 1-1.5 pounds a week. More if I exercise more!

Was exactly where you are a year ago. I had allowed an extra 40 lb to creep on before and after menopause before I got on this site. Just follow the plan that MFP sets up for you and don't worry too much about an occasional overage on your calories (the key word being "occasional"). It's challenging at first, but it gets easier as you get used to it and it works!!

and by the way, some people on here will go nuts if you spell lose that way ("loose").

I'll feel for you! I'm the same way! This week I walked 20 miles Monday through Friday and I watched what I ate and still didn't lose weight! I've almost decided it's hopeless! I've been stuck for a year and can't get in the losing mode! It sucks!

LOL, thanks for the feedback and I can't even believe I spelled LOSE that way!!! I'm in graphics and I pride myself on attention to detail!!! Yikes!

I hear you - it is a very sloooow process. My nutritionist suggested just eating lean proteins, veggies and healthy fats - cutting out all grains and starchy vegetables and watching fruit consumption. This seems to help. Thank goodness she didn't say anything about white wine!!
