How to Log jogging & walking together?

New jogger here. Walking 3 hours a day isn't very efficient for me anymore... So I decided to do less time and try jogging.

Spent 50 minutes walking briskly, with 7 or 8 periods of jogging that lasted 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes each.

What type of exercise should I log this as? I do not have a heart rate monitor yet. HIT training?

take the average of the speed

Yeah, I guess I'll just put 3.5 mph. That's probably roughly accurate. Thanks =)

I do the run/walk method, too, and I just add up the time I spent walking and log it using whatever speed fits best (3mph, 3.5mph, etc). Then, I add up the time I spent running and log it at that speed. For example: If I walk a total of 30 minutes at about 3mph, I would log it as 30 min at 3mph on MFP. If I run for a total of 60 minutes at 5 mph, I log it as 60 minutes at 5 mph. I base the speed on how fast I can run a mile or how many I can run in an hour. I've found that MFP seems to overestimate the amount of calories you burn, so be mindful of that. If you have a running app, you can create a new activity using that data (which might be more accurate).

I usually run on a treadmill so I log my average speed. If you are running outside and have a smart phone, you can use RunKeeper. It tells you your average distance, elevation, calories, etc. So I log (close) to the average and then adjust calories according to the app. Good luck!

Good tips. I don't have a smart phone. I decided to log my jogging separate from the walking approximately.

Eventually I'd like to get both a smartphone and a bodybugg!
