Hi all! I want to start making some smoothies for breakfast and wondered if you would share your smoothie recipes that you love...thanks so much:)

    I've been making one that is about 278 calories, but I use it as my meal:

    Berry Smoothie
    1/2 cup 0% fat plain greek yogurt
    1/2 cup vanilla almond milk
    1/2 cup frozen peaches
    1/2 cup frozen assorted berries
    1 TBSP of honey

    Blend and enjoy :)

    1 frozen banana
    1 cup almond milk
    1 scoop protein powder
    1 tablespoon cocoa powder
    1-2 tablespoons peanut butter
    Handful of leafy greens
    Sweetener to taste

    My tastiest smoothie recipe is anything with a thawed yocream vanilla yogurt base, just add your favorite fruit and a bit of ice it's so delicious.

    A more healthy smoothie I like to make is:
    1 cup vanilla soy milk (I prefer 8th continent light vanilla)
    1/2 of an apple
    12 grapes
    Small handful of frozen blueberries (maybe 1/3 cup)
    2 handfuls spinach (you could use more or less depending on your taste)
    1/3 cup unflavored protein powder

    I love making smoothies for breakfast! I usually throw together whatever I'm feeling instead of a set recipe but something along the lines of:

    -a handful of mixed frozen fruit (this way no ice to water it down!)
    -about 1/2 to 1 cup juice
    -a tablespoon of flax seed or flax seed oil
    -a scoop protein powder or a few spoonfuls of greek yogurt

    Yum! =)

    I also like to do a chocolate-bannana (sometimes PB too) smoothie that looks something like:

    -1 frozen banana
    -1 scoop choc. protein powder
    -milk or almond/soy milk, about 1/2 cup to 1 cup
    -flax seed or flax seed oil, 1 tablespoon
    -1 tbsp cocoa powder or PB if I'm feeling it needs more flavor
    -a small handful of ice cubes OR greek yogurt frozen as ice cubes

    1 cup Frozen Strawberries
    1 cup Frozen Raspberries
    1 cup Cucumber
    100g Low Fat Greek Yoghurt
    150ml Skimmed Milk
    3 tsp Sweetner
    1 tbsp Cinnamon

    About 264 calories.

    I tried it with Spinach once, I didn't like the texture of the leafs, perhaps I didn't blend for long enough but felt like I was eating hair *shudder*
  • 200ml soya milk
    20g oats
    150g low fat greek yoghurt
    1 banana
    a dash of agave nectar

    I go for high vitamins, protein, and fiber in my morning shake recipe. I use a 3 veggie 2 fruit ratio and look for fruit with a strong flavor and color.

    1 cup raw spinach
    1/2 cup baby carrots
    2-3 spears of raw broccoli
    2 TBSP of 0% Greek Yogurt plain
    1/8 cup Pom Wonderful pomegranate juice
    1 apple or pear cored sliced
    1 cup frozen Maine wild blueberries
    1 scoop Cytosport Whey Protein - Vanilla

    Makes a 32 oz shake or smoothie if you add a cup of ice

    ~380 calories 37 protein 7 fiber 61 carbs 2 fat
    Loaded with Vitamins

    My favorite right now is one medium red apple
    one banana
    1 cup of strawberries
    2-3 stalks of lettuce
    1 1/2 cups kale
    3/4 cup of water
    and about 4-5 ice cubes

    I read another thread this morning that mentioned a smoothie with spinach, yogurt and berries and became very interested.
    I am glad I found this thread.
    My interest is in adding more power rich nutrients- so I will be looking for veggie fruit combos.

    Just realized I put ''two stalks of lettuce''... i meant celery.......

    Anyway mostly if you just use 3 fruits and 2 veggies it's a delicious green smoothie! Or purple if you use blueberries

    I love smoothies! I have them for breakfast often, or following a long run. I usually make the recipes up myself. Here are two that I made recently:

    Berry Kale Smoothie
    - 1 cup of frozen berries (I like strawberries or blueberries best)
    - 1 frozen banana
    - 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
    - 1 cup of kale leaves
    - 1 tablespoon of ground flax
    - 1/2 tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil
    - 1 medjool date
    - 1/4 of a vanilla bean

    Mango Berry Smoothie
    - 1 mango, chopped
    - 1 cup of frozen berries
    - 1 1/2 cups of vanilla almond milk
    - 1 tablespoon of ground flax
    - 1/2 tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil
    - 1 medjool date
    - 1/4 of a vanilla bean

    These make pretty large servings so you could probably use a little less of everything and save a few calories. However, I use this as my meal and I am a distance runner so I need something that is packed with nutrients and filling. I follow mainly a macrobiotic diet so I don't use any powders or dairy in my smoothies. My base is usually vanilla almond milk, ground flax, coconut oil and a date - then I switch it up from there! Also, I suggest a Vitamix if you are really getting into smoothies - best thing I ever purchased!
