Since the beginning of this year I dropped 32 lbs went from 316lbs to 284lbs from walking, jogging and following the daily calorie requirements of MFP of being on pace for losing up to 2lbs a week (beginning of the year I was eating about 2400 calories excluding net). From April to May I was stuck at 290lbs didn't gain or lose and I tried eating back my exercise calories (no gain or loss) then I cut down on my carbs to about 40-60g a day and I dropped 6 lbs then once again I was stuck at 284lbs for 3 weeks then last week I read on this website about not eating less than your bmr (mine is 2623 calories according to some websites) and while falling short of this number (I barley can get to 2400 calories especially with exercise "net" calories) so I gave this a try and right now I'm 6 lbs heavier,I feel stuffed and bloated and I'm finding it really hard to even go past this number to be a few hundred calories above to be eating on pace (although MFP calories wants me to eat 2200 calories).

I'll give you guys a brief story about my weight loss history,in 2007 I was at 326lbs and from walking, eating low fat and averaging about 1200-1400 calories I dropped to 260lbs.Then between 2008-2009 from getting discouraged by plateauing I regained from slacking off to 290lbs.Then in the spring-summer of 2009 from jogging 4 miles everyday with walks between, weight lifting and eating 1400-1600 calories I went from 290 to 250lbs.Then one day I caught a bad stomach virus then when I recovered I wasn't able to pick up from where I left off with the cardio then winter came and in 2010 I weighed 291 lbs then I was got myself down to 280 lbs and I couldn't break past it.In 2011 long story short, same deal as 2010.Beginning 2012 I weighed 316lbs and here I am today posting this at 290lb.

My question comes down to this,

Why am I plateauing at 280 lbs?

I'm a 27 year old 6'2 male if that helps.

What did you use to calculate your BMR?
    What exercise do you do?
How active are you outside of the gym?
    Please post the following:

Average intake over the past month:

    Calories, Protein,Carb,Fat.

I may not be able to help but if you provide the above I'll take another look when I get back home tonight.

    1.I googled it (Runner's World,Health Discovery and BMI-Calculator)

2.I walk daily for about 30 mins a day and I jog with walking 60 mins 3 days a week)

3.I don't belong to a gym at the moment.

2000-2400 calories,250 carbs,120 fat and 120 protein on average from the last 30 days.

EDIT: I am an idiot.. you are a GUY..most of what I just said, I dunno? does not apply? Take what you see and believe that I meant well! /sigh.

Honestly, that's a LOT of calories, even for a bigger person..and I know..I've been there! My highest weight was 301, so I get where you're coming from.

I'd try decreasing my calories slowly, week by week, and increasing activity at the same time til you find your magic level :)

Some light lifting or weight training would probably help as well...

I found when I was at my highest weight, the 'Walk away the lbs' videos were really good..by the time I lost around 30, which put me about where you are, I started Jillian Michaels 30 day shred..OMG..it sucked BUTT..but it worked!

Also..I got the Zumba for the Xbox Kinect, and I do it daily. I gotta get my big butt up and move daily :)

    I wish you good luck!!

I would set your calories as follows, this is an estimate and this is just my suggestion. Keep in mind I am suggesting you EAT this amount of food regardless of your activity for the day (in other words, this is a static amount, not an amount you would add exercise calories to):

    2100-2200 cal
    180p
    90f
    200c

Do this for a month and see what happens, without changing stuff around.

I would also make a very strong effort to increase your NON EXERCISE activity so that you are moving around more when you are NOT exercising.

Its sounds like you same issue I WAS having.. I understand that everyone on here says eat back your exercise calories.. Well you know what that just wasn't working for me. I tried it i've been playing with my calories for the past few months and I couldn't figure it out.. Well I have now!!! When I ate back my calories I was just maintaining the same weight, I stopped eating my exercise calories and eat the 1400 and guess what??? I'm dropping again!! And I'm not starving.. The eating back might work for some and others it may not.. I mean HELLO we gained weight for a reason eating tooo much!!! Well play with your intake anyway and see what works for you. It might take you a little while to figure it out like I did. Good luck!! =)

Thank you's all for the advice I will give this a shot would weight training really help me?I've heard when someone wants to lose it's pointless because you can't gain muscle on a deficit is this true?

Sorry for the delay in replying to this:

Weight training will ABSOLUTELY help you. You may not gain lean mass (as a beginner and given your weight you may gain a small amount initially) but it will help to prevent you from losing lean mass as you lose weight.

The end result if you compare lifting to not lifting, will be substantially different in terms of what you will look like as your weight decreases.
