HELP! Anyone changed from a slow loser to a fast loser?

Hi
I would really love some help if possible. Has anyone out there found themselves to be long term 'slow losers" and then somehow made a change (or not) and found they suddenly sped up and lost some decent weight?
I have made so many attempts, and follow all the rules, only to lose about (max) 2 pounds a month. I know it is better than nothing but it is pretty disheartening when other people lose 6 or 8 or 10 or 12 pounds a month.
I wonder if anyone has been in my situation and found sudden success?
Many thanks Jeeni xx

You haven't got the same amount of weight to lose as people who should be losing 6-12 pounds per month. I know 2 pounds seems disheartening if you changed up a few things you might manage a healthy 3 pounds per month! My opinion would be to console youself with the thoughts that the slower it comes off the more likely it is to last and the less likely you will be to have a bunch of loose/saggy skin! Think of your journey as a marathon and not a race! Good luck!:drinker:

I've gone the opposite direction, I lost the first 50 pounds in 4-5 months. Since that time, I go weeks without a loss, presently can't seem to get past 164 pounds no matter what!

    Here idea...

See it more in percent lost rather than the amount that has been lost... 60pounds in months for someone of 300 pounds is the same as 30pounds for someone at 150pounds... Same percentage, but the 60 pounds lost seems much more HUGE as compared to 30pounds, even though it is the same percent lost....

Truth is, the less you start to weigh, the less you will lose every week/month etc... At start I was losing maybe 2-3kg a week so almost 6-8 pounds a week, now I lose normally 1-2kg a week only so 2-4pounds... But I am also almost 55 pounds lighter than before.... To keep up that drastic loss I would likely have been very sick by now and no energy to do my marathon training... Not that I am at moment due to work stress and load... One of drawbacks of owning a business and working from home I guess... I need more staff but don't want the added stress and admin... So sometimes work 14-16hr days....

Have you had your thyroid checked by an endocrinologist including your T3 and T4 levels (most PCP's only check TSH )? You could have an underlying condition?

Are you exercising every day? Are you measuring yourself? Are you sticking to your diet and not sneaking food? are you logging everything you eat? Are you drinking enough water? Do you sleep enough?

If you are doing everything right and have no medical issues, maybe consult a registered nutritionist or dietitian? Hope you can get it figured out. A lot of people (especially so close to goal) don't lose weight so fast. It is considered healthy to lose 1-2 lbs a week.

    Hi Everyone
As far as I know I've been doing a pretty good job.
I eat about 1200 a day with about one meal a week a bit of a breakout. I log everything!
    I strength train 2 to 3 times a week.
I walk and try to run (C25K) 3 times a week.
I am trying to drink between 6 to 8 cups water a day. (lately more like 6 than 8)
I eat minimal carbs and no white sugar, rice or flour.
    I take supplements.
Sleep I have been doing pretty good at (not this week) - it has been the thing I've had to change the most to get the exercise done.
Doctors have told me before not insulin resistant and no thyroid trouble (have had it tested).
It isn't like I lost a lot in the beginning and then slowed down - I just have lost at snails pace - 14 pounds in almost 5 months.
I know it is OK I just am greedy and would like a bit of a boost. Thought there might be someone out there in a similar situation, or better, who was in a similar situation then killed it.

It sounds like we have about the same slow process. I lose about 2 lbs. a month. I have lost 13 total since the first of the year - 6 since being on MFP. I walk 2 miles a day at least, do zumba about 1x a week and other things. I am limited to what I can due due to recent neck surgery. I stopped eating sugar at the beginning of the year and have added fruit back into my diet. The only sugar I get [unless it's very low in a food] is in fruit and vegetables. I would have thought the weight would have come off faster, but so far it hasn't. As long as the scale is going down consistentin I'm okay with it. Just keep doing what you are doing and maybe add more exercise. Also, I do better if I eat all of my calories back from exercise. Good luck!!

I started eating a paleo/primal diet and lost weight pretty quickly after that. It helped that I was no longer starving and had some energy! I have a gluten intolerance and didn't realize it until I cut it out and then reintroduced it with bad results. Not saying this is necessarily the right thing for you, but could be worth a try and the food choices are yummy and satisfying :)
  • It took me almost 2 full years to lose 50 pounds. I believe that "slow and steady wins the race". Because it was done slowly, I'm not worried about maintaining because I know I can do it. If your loss is pitifully slow, I'd speak to a doctor, as there may be something more than just a slow metabolism, etc.

    Good luck

Sounds like you need to eat more then 1200 for all the exercise that you are doing.

Not sure what you have MFP set to, but lower it to a pound or half a pound a week, and eat back some of your exercise calories.. that should help.

Oh I forgot to say that I drink a stack of green tea too!

I am doing a 12 week challenge where we are instructed not to eat more than 1200 - this contradicts with MFP that says you should eat back your exercise calories.

I've been a bit conflicted about it but decided to do what the challenge trainer said. After 12 weeks if still not working, will start eating more calories!

Thanks for the advice about slow and steady! I know it is right, I just worry about maintaining motivation...
Yes I was GF until I started the challenge, now I am following the low cal recipes, some of which have gluten. But I still have a lot of no gluten snacks and meals.

Anyway thanks again for replying Jeeni xx
