I just saw this article from the Huffington Post on the 10 companies that control an enormous number of consumer brands, many of which produce downright junk food! I knew we had a highly consolidated food market in the US, but wow, that's surprising. Check it out here!

Granted, there are some great brands in there. I'm not going to knock Gerber or Quaker, lol, but there are some gross items mixed in too. The sheer size of these megabrands is surprising too.0

Nah, you can knock Quaker all day.

The children in the so-called "Fernald Science Club" had been fed oatmeal laced with slightly radioactive milk as part of a nutrition study for Quaker Oats.
And a quick Gerber lawsuit google will give you far more recent reasons to knock that company.0 -
Most, if not all, of those companies are horrifyingly corrupt as well. Try reading up on Nestle's behavior regarding infant formula and mothers in developing countries. Proctor & Gamble will do anything for a buck. Unilever, Kraft, Kelloggs . . . they all have their sticky little fingers in the government's fat wallet and can't see anything else, including what is truly in the interest of their consumers.
I know I sound like a crazy conspiracy theorist here, but I urge anyone who is even vaguely interested in voting with their dollar to do some research.0 -

I second this. The information on at least some of it is readily available and from reliable, documented sources. Many of them involving court cases.0 -

Ohmygosh, wow! Haha, I've been so brainwashed by marketing! Thanks for sharing0 -

Haha, I always love me some research. I would love to see how these companies have maneuvered their way into the markets of developing countries and how their megabrands have affected local economies and health...0 -
People have always looked at me like I had 3 heads whenever I say something about not giving my son anything Gerber. Their stuff isn't healthy. Next time you're in the store, check out out the sodium content on their toddler meals. Those tiny little bodies don't need all that sodium.0
