The polar ft7 with the coded (something or other 31) chest strap is waterproof. :) I sometimes wear them in the pool at my gym while I swim laps. Thing is, the water is the conductor, so if your arm with the watch is out of the water, it isn't picking up the HR.

I have the Ft7 with wearlink 31. Allegedly, it works underwater. this has not been my experience.

Do you buy the strap separate? Do you wear both @ same time in water? I don't mean to sound stupid but I am not knowledgeable on HRMs and I don't want to spend that kind of money on something that will not help. Thank you all for your input!!

I wear mine in the pool. The buttons can't be pushed when the watch is wet, so you have to start it and then get in. As I said above--I have to leave the watch under the water since the chest strap is in the water and the water is the transmitter when swimming.

Huh? I've had a Polar FT7 for 10 months and have worn it for water aerobics and water zumba with no problems. I also wear it for cardio and other exercises. I have always been able to get a HR in or out of the water.

It came with the chest strap, which needs to be wetted before each wearing. I have just recently bought a second strap to use on alternate days, just because I wanted an extra one.

The chest strap comes with the HRM when you buy it. As said before, many Polar HRMs are water resistant meaning they can be worn in the water for water sports not including SCUBA, but it is suggested you don't push the buttons on the watch while in the water.

No need to purchase an additional strap or transmitter. Enjoy.

You can use the Polar FT4 in the pool also. I've used it for water aerobics.

    Got mine off this site:

    http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/ft60.html

Chest strap is included and on checkout if you enter the word: Polar , they will give you an additional 5% discount... You might be able to get it off Amazon cheaper but I like dealing with a company per say.. Had bought a sd9-hd headset (wireless) off amazon and it had a 30 day warranty.. day 34 it stopped working and I was SOL.... my band broke on my Polar FT60 a few week ago and I called customer service (have had if for about a year now) and no questions ask, he took my info and overnight me a new strap at no charge) Alot of people just wet the strap down and that works fine but do use the Buh Bump electrode cream its like 7 bucks a tube and last a long time... Hope that helps...

If your entire body is out of the water, it works. If your entire body is in the water, it works. If your transmitter is IN the water while your watch is OUT of the water, it definitely doesn't work, as the water is becomes the transmitter instead of air frequencies when the chest strap is submerged.... Water is highly conductive, but it has trouble sending those waves into the air...

    True story.

Funny, I thought it was electromagnetic.
