Uncomfortable doing Floor Exercises

I have a very hard time doing sit ups, crunches, leg lifts, any exercise that requires me to lay on my back to do, due to the fact it makes my tailbone pop, and it makes it very uncomfortable for me to continue.
I do not have a bad back, so why would my tailbone be popping during my exercises, and how can I prevent it? (It kinda feels like my bone is rubbing up against one another, and it does not hurt, just is uncomfortable)

I have a slight natural curve in my lower back and my sit ups hurt on the floor or matt....but i can do sit ups on my sofa or bed! lol would love to see if anyone else has this problem and how they get around it0

try doubling up your mat so there is more cushion.0

Ok, I do not have any exercise mats, but I do have a lot of fluffy blankets I can use lol0

Is it a suction sounding pop similar to the sound/feel of cracking knuckles? If its like that and there's no pain that's not unusual. I get a similar pop in my right hip on certain exercises. It tends to go away as I get more flexible.
You can try rolling up a towel (or portion of a fluffy blanket) and putting that under the small of your lower back. That should help with your alignment and give you some combination of more comfort/less popping.0 -
I have lower back issues and have struggled with them all my life. I usually roll up a towel and place that under my lower back for support.0

I have a similar issue - didn't know anyone else til now who did. I actually have a tailbone that seems to want to go right into the floor, like its pushing into my skin when I do sit ups. The only remedy I've found, is a really thick mat, but it makes me wonder if something's wrong with me.0

Its' possible you should not be doing them.I just got told to stop doing a specific lying on back exercise I found in a book. I was told the exercise is fine, but my body is not ready for it yet.0

I have a slight curve in my lower back too and I'd like to hear any suggestions for making sit ups on the floor more comfortable. I was doing them on the bed, but somehow doing them on the bed just isn't as effective as on the floor.0
