Calories burned correct??

Hi! I am wondering if the # of calories burned that MFP shows for the elliptical are correct?? I enter my weight in the elliptical machine, and the calories burned on there are a lot lower than when I put it in MFP. Thoughts?? Thanks!!!

I just use what the machine says. I vary how I use the elliptical. So in a 45 minute session one day I may do more miles, or may do more hills. The entry here doesn't take any of that into account. Some elliptical machines are cross trainers and they burn more calories than if your arms are still. The machines may not be 100% accurate, but they are far closer at showing what I actually do to reflect that workout than what a 1 size fits all entry on here does.
  • i dont find my cross trainers at the gym to be correct nor the mfp one i go off my hrm theyre good investments and a guide to see when your body is getting used to workouts and not burning as much

Used to drive me crazy. Bought an HRM and don't have to worry about it anymore.

I use a heart rate monitor too and stick to that at all times. Depending on the machine sometimes my HRM is lower and other times it's higher. For the sake of consistency and knowing if I am challenging myself the only number I look at is the one on my HRM. You don't need anything too fancy, shop around and you can probably pick one up for $100-$150. If you don't want to invest then just go with the machine reading so once again you're consistent but you need to ensure you use the HRM panels at all times which you cannot do if you want to use your arms.
