I have been away from this site for a while. BIG MISTAKE !!!!!!!!!!! I put 14 lbs back on. I now have 55 lbs to loose. I thing I never did before was measure. Got a massive shock today as my waist measures 45 inches. Need to loose at least 15 inches off my waist. Hate the fact i have let myself get like this :(:( On the up side we have set a date for our wedding ( July 2014). I really hope I can achieve my goal by then. Any tips and motivation would be great x

Think of it this way. It could be worse. You could have put on 20+, but you didn't. Let it go and start fresh. Your diary isn't open so I can't make specific suggestions, but make sure you log everything. Portion control is key. If you don't weigh or measure the majority of your food, you could be really underestimating your intake. Exercise and strength training help a lot with getting inches off. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials. You have plenty of time to get where you want to be. Just keep at it and don't give up. Good luck!

Try to come up with mini-goals. Like "I'm going to log every bite I eat this week, even if I go over my calories," or "I'm going to walk no less than 30 minutes every day this week." Don't make it about losing inches or pounds, make it about taking care of yourself. Bit by bit, the weight will come off, the waist will shrink, and you'll find yourself naturally logging your food and exercising daily.

This won't be nearly as easy as putting it on was, but it will be far more satisfying. I promise.
  • I think this site is the best thing EVER. I am actually trying to GAIN 15 pounds, which isn't so easy either. Keep your spirits high, track EVERYTHING you do, and you should be fine. I agree with what everyone else has said, exercise daily and watch what you put on your plate. What I have noticed works for other people is to eat smaller portions more times per day. If you can, along with exercise, you should start to see some progress!

You have taken the first step to getting the weight off, and that's coming back. You could have had a worse weight gain when you were gone, but you can still get to your goal. I definitely think if you work hard and concentrate, you can accomplish it for your wedding! Good luck! Feel free to add me if you need any motivation!

Feel free to add me if you'd like! I have a similar goal- to get to my goal weight before my wedding, which is also in 2014 (hoping for September but we haven't set the date yet). My goal is 125 lbs (more or less depending on how I feel when I get there)- when I was in HS, that was my weight and my waist was 29 inches which sounds close to what you're aiming for. I'm always open to sharing tips too :)

i used my wedding date as my motivation the closer it got, the more stressed i got, the more i worked out. seriously i was up to 4hrs at the very end. we're just about to enter july 2012. 2 years from now you will be happily married. where do you want to be in 3 months? set mini goals. they are much easier to accomplish than one big gigantic one.

I agree with tangible mini-goals. I have come to a point where I try to only worry about today. What I need to do to accomplish my eating/exercise goals for today. If I think about the big picture of how much I need to lose, how much further I need to get with my fitness, I can get overwhelmed and discouraged. If I mess up, then I say oops and then the next day, I'm again only focused on that day, not the slip up for yesterday and not that I have to do this day in and day out forever lol. Just today.

I'm actually reminding myself of this as I type. I have to do my 30 day shred workout still, and if I think about having to do that blasted thing for the next 27 days, it would be so easy to rationalize that I'm tired and can take a day off. Because, trust me, the thought of doing it today, then again tomorrow, then the next day...forget about it. I say, it's only 20 mins out of your day today, you can power through it. I'm not worried about getting through it tomorrow, then the next, then the next, I'll worry about that when I get there.

Also if I really want a treat. I ask myself, do I really want this? Or can I get through today without it. Sometimes the answer is, yes I really really want this ice cream, and I say ok and have some, other times I can say, nah, I can make it today without it.

Hope this is t just rambling nonsense. :)

Well, I'm nearing the end of my weight loss journey after a year on MFP and have lost over 40 pounds. I visualized this point a lot last summer when I was just starting out...me, 40 pounds lighter and several dress sizes smaller and that visual got me through several rough spots.

Don't look at the 55 pounds you want to lose...take it in 5 or 10 pound chunks and celebrate (without food!) when you reach a new milestone. Recognize that you're going to be here for awhile and login everyday. The people who don't succeed using MFP are the ones who give up and stop trying. Find a diet and exercise plan that works for you and stick with it until it stops working for you and begs to be changed.

Good luck! You can do this!

Also, I'd suggest getting a digital food scale. Weigh and measure EVERYTHING!

Hi there, I struggled with weight loss too. I tried ViSalus. I think it worked but I found to work was the tips I picked up from that. I also go to the gym, not often enough though. BUT my biggest motivation was this site. When I was able to see what I ate and the calories that I was putting in my mouth, I was a little more aware. Now when I want something, I look up and see how many calories it is and decide from there. I had 2 tim horton med 3x3 today 500 CALORIES. I am on 1200 cal/day. SOOO for supper I am having a watermelon shake instead of potatoes & sausages. I have a friend that is on this site with me and that makes it good too, to have someone else seeing what you are doing. If you want to join up together, just let me know. Always good to have a buddy!!Happy Losing!!!:
