Eating more and losing weight

Ok, well they all say that if u eat more, but smaller portions and better food and not rubbish food, then its something to do with ure metabolism right, but if u dnt ure body goes into starvation mode until u eat again much later and u wont lose weight as much as if u did eat less but more often right?

so how often in the day wud u eat something, how far apart would u leave it till u eat the next thing?

    For me, it seems like the total daily intake is what's important, not so much how many meals it breaks down into. i eat breakfast and diner and I pack a lunch for work...I usually munch on the stuff in my lunch box throughout the day until it's done, and that's it until dinner. Before bed I might have some fruit or almonds and raisins or something like that.
