Well, if your gym doesn't have a rule against denim, I suppose you could make yourself happy and wear your jeans. My jeans tend to stretch out as the day progresses, especially if I get really warm. And they gap at the back if I don't wear a belt, which I can't imagine working out in. So for me, at least, working out in jeans would allow for some major plumber's crack, even if I could get past the discomfort factor.
But really, I tend to agree with the other posters about the sweat factor. I can't imagine that could be good for the lady-parts. I hate to mention this in (internet) company, but I would think that would lead to repeated yeast infections. That area needs to breathe and I just don't see how denim during Zumba would allow that to happen.
Also, I would think it would be much easier to overheat while wearing jeans, since the sweat isn't going to wick away from your skin and they tend to be made of thick material.

Wow, didn't expect such a huge reaction, haha.
I know it's not as comfortable when you sweat in jeans but I feel uncomfortable in any type of clothing except jeans. I'm 23 and only just now starting to branch out and wear dresses, which is HUGE for me.
I guess I do need to find some cute and comfortable yoga pants. I just hate how baggy sweatpants are, it just feels blah to me, lol.0 -

You're not going to the gym to look good WHILE you're at the gym.
I hate frumpy baggy sweats, too, so i don't wear them (unless I have the flu). I'm most comfortable in shorts because I sweat buckets, but I have lots of exercise capris and pants that are slim fitting and flattering.0 -

There were a couple of people at my gym that would work out in jeans. It's just weird. They aren't workout clothes. You want to wear something that breathes and sucks sweat away from your body and then dries quickly. I typically wear that wicking stuff. it's the best. You don't feel like you even sweat.0

Two words: Chub Rub. I don't wear sweats, I wear 100% synthetic fabric. Chaffing=pain!0

yoga pants or yoga capris and a tank are the most comfortable in the gym IMO. I wouldn't ever wear jeans... what a gross feeling that would be.
But if that's what you like, than that's your choice.0 -

I don't even own sweat pants. I wear yoga capris. I can't do shorts they move up my thighs and are just horrible. If I tried doing yoga in jeans I think I would split a seam.0

This reminds me, a few years ago there was a woman in one of my most intense, sweaty, hot power yoga classes who would wear jeans with a belt and tucked-in blouse to class! I was so distracted by how uncomfortable it looked to be her, I'd lose focus in my practice. She was a real odd bird, who would make strange noises and loud grunts during class too...she wasn't all there.
Jeans - not appropriate workout wear for all kinds of reasons. My biggest concern would be constriction of internal organs, interfering with digestion etc...you need to be able to move, breathe, bend, stretch...
There is a Trader Joe's across the street from my gym...most of the time at least half the shoppers are in workout clothes, and half of them are sweaty and flushed. IT'S TOTALLY OKAY! But if it bothers you that much...I assume there's a locker room at your gym? Bring the jeans and change after.0 -
I once saw a girl at the gym on a treadmill in a ankle length denim skirt. That looked dangerous. That was near my mom's house in a community that I happen to know that her clothing choice was a religious thing, but even knowing that I couldn't believe there wasn't a more comfortable choice!
OP- you will be much more comfortable in yoga pants or compression pants, or you could try compression shorts under a pair of baggier shorts which is both very secure and modest.0 -
I see your point, you want to be comfortable when you are working out, who doesn't. BUUUTTTTT I dont think that the gyms are trying to cramp your style or deny your civil liberty to wear jeans. It's a safety thing having to do with range of motion and movement, but another reason would be that jean are not as breathable as most work out material and increases your risk for infection to your no no parts.... lol... no but seriously if you want to go shop post work out just change. And besides going to the store with sweaty swamp jean bottoms is nasty again INFECTION (YEAST)..... BLEH GROSS and no FUN!!!0
