Calorie Deficit

Can anyone explain how exactly this works? How do I know exactly what my calorie deficit should be? I would like to maintain my current weight so do I even need a deficit? Does anyone else have a hard time eating all their alloted calories in a day? I really have a hard time trying to eat all my alloted calories after exercise and am told that starvation mode may kick in but I really can't eat anymore then I already am. Any suggestions and sorry for so many questions.

Good question, thats fiercely debated on mfp. Im looking forward to see how this pans out. everyone has a different angle. for me, I'll eat my BMR calories and no more or less..that way I'll avoid starvation mode, but I am aiming to lose, not maintain, so my food intake is also combined with exercise calories burnt.

if you are maintaining, i'd say you should strive to eat your BMR, assuming you are sedentary in your lifestyle..if you are more active, then increase it slightly.

I think by definition if you're trying to maintain, you don't want a caloric deficit. There are multiple ways of determining what your maintenance is. Assuming you're tracking your calories accurately and you're also logging your exercise calories correctly, yes you'd want to eat those calories back, or at least some if not most of them.

I'm afraid I've never in my life had a problem with eating enough food, quite the opposite, so I'm not much help there.

OP, if you want to maintain, just tell MFP you want to maintain, eat the calories it tells you (and at least part of the exercise calories depending on how sure you are of the accuracy), and evaluate after a month. If you gained, decrease slightly. If you lost, increase slightly. If you're having trouble getting all your calories in, look into some snacking; that can help you increase without feeling as full.

Even if you are sedentary, your maintenance level is roughly 1.2*bmr.
