Can somebody take a look at this Menu?

I'm going out for malaysian food this weekend since I'm allowing myself one cheat meal a week. That being said, I still want to try and eat generally healthy and low cal. I'm reviewing the menu in advance and a lot of things seem to be cooked in creams and sauces and I'm feeling overwhelmed.

Can somebody take a look at this and tell me what YOU would get? (I don't eat seafood, by the way.)

For appetizers, the spring roll and/or the spicy pickled mixed veges. For the entree the Kajang satay chicken.

All that stuff sounds really good. I would probably ask and see if they can put the sauce on the side instead, that way you'll eliminate the source of most of the calories.

Personally, I would stay away from all the fried stuff, save those calories for dessert, or even share a dessert with a friend or something so the guilt doesn't get to you TOO much. The sauteed food may have a lot of oil in it so I would just stick to asking for the sauce on the side and getting something steamed.

Mmmm, I think the Satay Chicken sounds awesome!! And I agree with the other posters, if you get the sauce on the side, it will eliminate a lot of the cals!

I'd get the Itik Palan with brown rice and start with steamed spring rolls.

Yep. I'd get the satay chicken and for appetizers I'd get a salad and the steamed shrimp dumplings.

    Now I'm hungry.

WOW!!! that menu looks amazing!! I live in a small town in England and we don't have restaurants like that around here!! I would go for soup to start probably, and then i'd have a seafood or veggie salad or curry, have you looked at the health/diet section of the menu? there's a few things that sound nice?! ENJOY!!

I've just been told off for licking my computer screen at work

That all looks amazing!! But in response to your OP, for starters go with something steamed rather than fried, and there are some options with brown rice - wow, just saw the health section near the bottom and I'd definitely go for fisherman's lover! :drinker:

Spring roll stuffed with ****ake mushrooms, shredded egg, jicama, and bean sprout
    'mango' Salad
    Ayam Kekasih
Sliced white meat chicken cooked with tasty black bean sauce with pepper, baby corn, straw mushroom, onion and broccoli

I'd skip the baby corn though.

    Good luck!

remember: portion control! when the rice arrives, try and guestimate how much there is and decide what an appropriate portion is for you (1/2 a cup? 1 cup?). Sometimes I'll request a take-away box right at the beginning of the meal and toss half of the entire thing in there and then dig into my "full" plate until I can lick it clean! More satisfying that way!

I like the idea that you are looking forward to "cheating" but are still planning on being careful. It is important not to give yourself a card blanche to pig out because you think you deserve it. You are working too have to jeopardize your wellness plan for a day of food debauchery. Haha

Looking forward to slightly overspending your calories as a reward is fine. You shouldn't feel guilty about it and it won't ruin your nutrition plan. Just don't make rewarding yourself a habit. That being said, there are some great ideas here. Stay away from fried foods. Look to get fiber so you'll feel fuller, since that type of food is sometimes not filling. Good luck!

    OMG they have fruit specials!

I'd get a bad app like an egg roll and then have Ayam Tropical (Crispy boneless white meat chicken with fresh mango, papaya, onion, red pepper in a light spicy lime sauce)
