Pick your goal weight, or how did you figure out what your goal weight should be? Doctor's advice, trainer? Favorite #? When you hit it was it right for you or did you change it? Curious????

My cardiologist came up with the number.0

Originally, my goal weight was about 20 pounds more than I weigh right now. I changed the goal before I hit it to a number that would put me in the healthy range for BMI. I wasn't sure I would stick with this figure, but I am happy with it now. I had my body fat percentage done, and I'm at a great percentage for my age. Then my doctor told me he didn't think I needed to lose any more weight. Now I just want to be able to maintain it.0

It's a weight I've been at before and feel and look great at.0

I started at 187 (I am only 5 foot tall) and my goal is 150 lbs. Technically that still has me at "overweight" but I figured a 35 lb weight loss would be great and if I am not thrilled with myself at that point I could always change it.
For my weight I "should" weigh between 97 (yep, I said 97) and 125 lbs to be "healthy" - I think thats BS and I would look ill at 100 lbs. I am a grown woman for goodness sakes, not a 12 year old.0 -
I hit mine two years ago but it was only about 15 lbs lower than what I was at anyway. It's when I felt best without looking like skin and bones.
A good way to figure it out is here: http://www.cordianet.com/calculator.htm
The number in my head matches up pretty well with the number this shows.0 -
I came up with it with my Endocrinologist.0

It's a weight I used to be and it felt right. Also, it's a nice round number - 9 stone :-)
Maybe if I were from the USA and weighing myself in pounds, I'd have picked a different number!0 -
i have come up with a sensible weight, but when i get there i can then if i wish take it down a bit more. since i started from before i started with mfp i have lost over 51/2 stones.0

My original goal when I started losing weight was to lose 20 pounds in 25 weeks with an end goal of 195 pounds. I accidentally blew that goal out of the water and set progressively smaller goals along the way. 165-ish is the boundary between overweight and normal for my height and 150 seemed like a nice round number with enough of a cushion that I'd have some warning before I tripped over that line again if I gain any weight back.0

It's a weight I've been at before but I wasn't really lean then. I plan on being a much more lean 110 lbs this time around.0

I want to be around 180 again. This is where I want to be because thats where I was when I had my 6 pack and was in very good shape even though I am around 195 now0

I wanted to be about 120 because I'm so short, but my friver's license says 118 from when I was younger, so I put it at that :P0

I picked the middle of the healthy weight range on the BMI chart. It's just a rough estimate really, and I'll decide where I want to end up when I get close.
I weighed 194.2 and the Dr's office today, and he thought I could lose another 20 pounds, which would put me at the top end of the healthy range. I think I may need to go another 20 pounds lower beyond that, we'll see.0 -
Went to the NHLBI BMI calculator, types in my stats, picked the top end of the range (because I think those things are crazy low)
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
(note: BMI isn't really a reliable way to measure health, but if you can get into the currently agreed-upon normal range for your height/weight then at least you are statistically avoiding weight-related illnesses as best as you can based on current knowledge.)0 -
A little guess work. Based on neck and waist measurements, I was supposed to be at 35% bodyfat at 380 lbs, so I figured if I got to 300, that would put me at 12 to 15%, depending on if I had muscle loss.0

Thank you all for the reply's. I picked mine because it's close to the top end of those stupid charts but I am only two pounds away from goal and really feel I am not done yet? I have decided to keep doing what I have been doing and see what happens.
