sodium question

I read in Jillian Michaels 30 day shred book that sodium actually lowers your metabolism and makes you gain weight. She said to keep it under 1000 mg. Is this true? I usually eat 2300 or more a day, and it's so hard for me to consume so litte sodium since it is in evertying. (even bread contains it. a lot of it.) Does eating too much sodium lower your metab? Even if you eat under your calorie intake and fat intake for the day, and exercise?

ignore her.
match your potassium and sodium to as close to 1:1 as you can. that will take care of sodium, in general. also, drink more water. we flush out 90-95 percent of our excess sodium through urination. more water, more bathroom breaks, less sodium in our system. also, work out. we get rid of a few percent through sweat.
unless you have a medical reason to track sodium, assuming you are eating in calorie limits, you will more than likely not even need to worry about tracking it. I don't.0 -
I'm not a big jillian michael's fan, but sodium is bad for you - and you should keep it under 2500, if not less.... Weekends I usually go out to eat once or twice and I know I'll go over on sodium those days because it's unavoidable, but on normal days, I try to keep it under 2000 if possible. It is hard because it's in everything. But if you read labels and become sodium conscious, you can do it. Check out my diary.0

unless you eat 100% organic and unprocessed, it's pretty much impossible to stay under 1000mg of sodium every day, especially if you're working out and eating back exercise calories. follow the suggestions from the other posters0

Oh thank you guys! I agree with you. I couldn't fathom how I would be able to stay under 1000 mg of sodium a day. I'm glad I know the truth. I will follow all of your advice. Thank you.0
