For those who like a little salad with their dressing...

Most of you probably know this tip, but I thought I would share. I make my salad in a bowl with a lid. I then measure out my dressing as per recommended serving. I then add to salad, place lid on bowl and give it a good shake. This gets everything covered in dressing. I like this better than the dipping the fork into the dressing idea but that is a good one too...

I do this and it works for me! But measuring is KEY too!

I make my salads upside down with the meat and veggies on the bottom and the spinach or romaine on the top. Then I put the dressing directly on the greens.

I don't mind if the carrots and mushrooms don't get dressing but I like for the spinach to have it.

I do this also and have for years. The dipping trick is ok, but this is better!

I actually measure EVERYTHING (well as long as I am home)! Gets tedious but really the only way to be accurate. I have a great scale that even gives me the nutritional info!

Great old trick. You can get away with half the amount of dressing this way if you are close on calories.

I had to start doing this because I LOVE dressing, sadly it isn't the greatest - Caesar is my weakness.
This helped me drastically reduce the amount I used and calories I consumed.
And in my opinion fat free Caesar is horrendous!

I hear ya on the FF dressings... There is actually a brand called Bolthouse Farms and they have a Caesar Parmigiano which is not too bad, it is a yogurt based dressing, 45 calories, 2.5 grams of fat

    Good idea

Measuring tip: I keep a coffee scoop in my desk at work - it holds 2 TBL! That way I don't go overboard.

I always do this and get laughed at :-( It's such a great way to make sure the whole thing gets some dressing and you don't get salad soup at the end.

My husband always has about an extra TBS or so at the bottom of his bowl!

I do this! Such a good idea. I eat low calorie Italian, Balsamic, and Ranch. 20 calories per tablespoon.

Hmm, might have to keep that trick in mind. I do like an even distribution of dressing on my salad.

Also, fat-free dressings are definitely awful, and not even worth it. If you look at the label of a creamy full-fat vs creamy fat-free dressing (like Ranch or Caesar), the difference is something like a whopping 5 calories. For my money, if I'm gonna use a creamy dressing at all I'll buy regular Ranch, which doesn't taste like ball sweat and despair, and just use less of it. I've developed more of a taste for Italian dressing and oil/vinegar lately, though.
