Staying on Track on VACA

Hello MFP World!

I need some advice... My family and I will be heading back to the mid-west for a 10 day vaca. We will be driving from NC to parts of Missouri/Iowa and Kansas. We will be driving two days up and two days back.

So obviously we will be doing a lot of eating out on the travel days. How do I eat out (especially fast food) and keep my cals low and health. I would love to hear what to eat while traveling to stay on track. I am 3 lbs from my goal and really really dont want to backslide so close to my goal!

Any advice is much appreciated!
Sonya

Can you pre-make your meals and take them in a cooler?

Protein and veggies! Almost every restaurant has some form of protein and veg, like chicken breast and a salad.

Grab some fruit for snacks in the car and there ya have it! You can do it!

I can for some meals but I have twin 4 year olds so stopping to eat is a must!

I understand having to stop with kids, but can you not stop at a rest stop and eat what you brought? I guess I don't understand why you "have" to stop and get fast food.

Good point. We can stop for lunch and picnic at a rest stop. But I cannot realistically stop for every meal like that we will be in the car 2 full days.

Mosr fast food places have a grilled chicken sandwich. Sometimes i get 2 but only eat 1 bun. Pack lots of protein bars, nuts and water. Give yourself a break too, youre on vacation:). Good luck!

When we traveled with little kids we would stop at school playgrounds (school is out here) and they would eat and play to burn off some energy. We would stop at a grocery store to buy our food when we were days away from home. a bit of cheese, cooked chicken, veggies, fruit, salad, bakery rolls, water, and we would have pb in the cooler as one of my kids was really into that. It was less expensive than fast food and no guilt. I know things like happy meals don't cost a lot but the energy from the food is so poor... It's a good example for your little kids too. Happy vacation!! Just suggestions...I know it's difficult. I have a husband that will stop for fast food and I'll wait and go to the grocery store...

That is why we work so hard the rest of the time is to enjoy ourselves on occasion. Even if you have a little loss of progress, it will come back off quickly once you get home.

I went on vacation for 2 weeks last year in San Diego. I still tracked and ate mostly bad too. I upped my calories to maintance, drank water with almost all of my meals, and I walked EVERYWHERE. When I returned from my vacation I dropped 7 lbs.
  • I agree with the last few posts - take some time off and enjoy yourself, just make sure you get back on track when you're home :)

Portion control, portion control, and them some more portion control.

I indulge while on vacation but exercise portion control. You don't need that whole plate of fried food (or insert high calorie meal name here). Eat slowly, eat until you are full, and don't overdo it. Most of all, it is vacation, so as long as you aren't pigging out, ENJOY!
