Chia seeds

Other than Whole Foods, where do you guys purchase them? I want to try them. Also, what do YOU like to add them to?

    I got mine on Amazon...and I add then to yogurt - and put them in my refrigerator oatmeal.

    I buy them at bulk stores and use them to thicken recipes. ex. oatmeal, pasta sauces, jams, smoothies

    Love the Chia!

    I get them from an all natural health food store in my neighborhood. I love overnight oatmeal:

    1.5 tbs chia seeds
    1/4 cup plain vanilla yogurt (some people prefer greek yogurt...yuck)
    1/4 cup old fashion rolled oats
    1/3 cup unsweetened almond milk
    1tbs unsweetened cocoa powder

    mix refrigerate overnight and add some raisens in the morning to sweeten it up. My husband will only eat it with a little sweetener in it but i think its good without.

    I also add some to my smoothies.

    Have not made the chia pudding yet. It may be great but it's too ugly for me to get very excited about.

    I get them a Sunflower Farmers Market I put them in Green Tea as well as the mentioned stuff

    I get them off the internet & throw them in my ice cream or morning cereal, although someone said that they need to be pre soaked to get the best from them, as they are tough for the body to break down.

    I couldn't find them in the health food section of any of my local grocery stores. Just as easy to order off of Amazon for me. My first time using them this week!!! I made Overnight Oatmeal from Skinnytaste.com. I absolutely LOVE IT. The seeds don't add any flavor at all, but make the oatmeal concoction a nice texture, thickens it up!

    We got some from a coop in our area. I usually put them in salad dressing and mix it up.

    I buy Chia seed at most grocery stores I shop at. They are usually in the health dept. or near the flaxseed area. Also any natural food store will have them. I use them with yogurt, oatmeal, salads, soups, smoothies, eggs, fruit juice, PB2, pudding, and mixing a couple tsp with a quarter cup of water to make an egg sustitute for baking.

    I just received mine yestereday in the mail, from Amazon.com. I put it in my water this morning and might throw some on my lunch later. It creates a different type of texture and some seeds stay crunchy. I didn't mind it though.

    I love the egg sub. idea! thanks for that I will be trying that for sure.

    i buy the ground and whole chia seeds and the light and dark lol I like to mix it up ;)

    I get them at nuts.com and add them to overnight oats, yogurt, and smoothies. I also sprinkle them on scrambled eggs, roasted veggies, and salads. You can add them to pretty much anything for an extra nutritional boost!

    I think I found mine at either Wegman's or Trader Joe's.

    Add them to overnight oatmeal and throw a spoonful into some green tea. They are tasteless, so you can add them to anything, really.

    Chia seeds are amazing. I have seen them in some grocery stores I found mine at Remi teas online.

    If you let them soak they create a gel that can replace fat in your baking. The seeds make me think of poppy seeds without the flavor. If you plan on being out in the heat its good to have some before you head out. It will help keep you from dehydrating. Just make sure you drink a few cups of water if you decide to do that.

    I hope that gives you some ideas.

    I go to a local middle eastern food store that sells them in bulk and buy about 1 cup of chia seeds at a time. I store them in the freezer so they don't get rancid, although it probably isn't necesary.

    I add them cereals, yogurt and to foods that need a bit of thickening.

    Frankly, I think the best thing about chia seeds is the way they absorb liquid. I just stir in some seeds, wait about 10 minutes, and the seeds take up most of the liquid.

    When the whole seeds are dry, they look like tiny poppy seeds. After they absorb liquid, they resemble small tapioca pearls. Chia seeds add texture to foods but do NOT affect the flavor.

    I find them in the health foods and organic section of the local grocery store.

    I love to put them in my ice water with some cranberry juice and half of a lime squeezed in. Just let them soak for a few minutes before you drink. I have put them in smoothies as well, but they tend to get clumpy.

    I have bought Chia Seeds at a health food store but have also seen them in the bulk food section at a local grocery store. I think they are becoming more popular and more stores are starting to carry them. I will add 1 TBS of dry seeds to 1/2 c old fashioned oats & 1 c water and cook for 5 minutes. I will then add some fresh berries and a bit of splenda if needed. They don't add any flavor but really bump up the nutrition. I will also make 'chia gell' in which I will soak 2 TBS Chia Seeds in 1 c water for an hour. I will then add the gel to yogurt, cereal (like a bowl of grape nuts,) or sauces like spaghetti sauce or applesauce. Good luck!

  • It depends on where you live. I live in NY and health stores are everywhere. I add them to oatmeal.
