  • I bruise very badly, but I have lupus and alpha thalassemia. I hit my leg on the shopping cart last week and I have a bruise the size of a grapefruit , plus they last forever. I'd say get some blood work done just to make sure it is nothing medical.

Editing today - could be vit d deficiency, I take 50,000 iuis a week for it.

Whenever I've been running, I wake up with little black bruises too, not much bigger than a penny.
They're not painful, just ugly... I blame my weight and the strain on my body by making it run, ha!
  • im getting a little freaked out now. think i'll call my doctor.

Call your doctor IMMEDIATELY. Weird bruises can be a sign of ITP (essentially, not enough platelets), which, if untreated, can cause you to bleed to death. Also, weird bruises can be a sign of leukemia.

Sorry to be alarmist, but I had unexplained bruises as a kid, and the pediatrician told my mom to take me to the emergency room immediately. Turned out to have been the right move.

DO THIS. Easy bruising, as the above says, can be the result of platelet issues and other blood issues related to your ability to clot. If your ability to clot is compromised, you bruise easily. The likelhood that this is "the problem" may be relatively small, but the consequence if that IS the problem can be serious.

Ok. i don't know if this is related to my diet or what. but in the last couple days, i keep waking up with these little black bruises all up and down my legs, mainly on my calves. what is going on. i didn't injure myself that i know of. some one told me i could deficient in vitamins? i dunno. what do you think. can not having proper nutrients cause weird unexplained bruising.? also, another quick question. is it possible to pull a muscle behind your knee from running. cuz while i was running, the back of me knee felt weird, like it was going to give out,? thanks.

    Vitamin K!!!

Green Veggies have natural blood clotting properties.
    Kale,
    Romaine
    Butter (greens)
    Spinach
    etc.....
Also, Try to cut out Ibuprofen or Aspirin for awhile

If you mountain bike at all, then it's normal. :P We never know where they come from. They're just battle scars.

Happens to me sometimes. I also get banged up at my job and it lasts for weeks - I'm Vit D and Iron deficient and I'm 99% sure that's why.

    Right.

BUT, clotting too easily has its own serious risks. Don't try to "solve" this without a conversation with your M.D.

Since I haven't really learned anything in school yet you can take it with a grain of salt...but they have us ask the patients if you bruise easily because it could be a number of things. If you're worried you can get checked out - it might be absolutely nothing or something that you can fix.

Just for peace of mind if nothing else.

I was bruising easily @ 10 yrs ago and found out my platelet count was very low (I.T.P-didn't know what caused it, but apparently affects @ 5% of women); I had to have my spleen removed and since then, platelets have increased to a much safer level, although still below the 'normal' counts.

For sure, might be best to have bloodwork done!

It very well may be nothing to worry about at all, but it's always better to be safe and check it out.

Antidepressants caused me to bruise much more easily. I also lack intrinsic factor which makes me bruise easier.

It could be numerous things, best advice, go to your doctor!

THIS is what's been happening to me
  • I woke up witht he same thing a couple of weeks ago! I thought it was due to climbing a tree to go ziplining but more and more kept appearing... I ended up going to a vitamin store and buying prenatals (high in iron, vitamin K, Potassium) and have been taking them every day for the last two weeks and I am not bruising at all anymore.

However, that being said, if it hadn't cleared up, I would have gone to the doctor.. :-)
