Question about water retention

A couple of weeks ago my doctor took me off my blood pressure meds. I have lost enough weight that with the meds, it was lowering my blood pressure so much that my kidneys were shutting down. My blood pressure is maintaining normal numbers but the meds I was on had a water pill with it. Being off the meds, I have gained almost 20 lbs. I rarely go over 1200 calories and do some form of exercise every day. I am beyond frustrated!!!! My wedding ring that used to be extremely loose on me won't even fit on my finger now. My ankles feel fat, my pants are a little tight now, and I feel miserable. Any suggestions?????

That is a tough question.
I do know people who have water retention issues should make sure they are getting adequate amounts of water each day.
At 1200 calories, it is always possible that you are doing one of two things. One, maybe you are not eating enough or two maybe you are eating too much. I think the best thing to do would be to make sure you weigh and measure everything for the next few weeks to make sure your calories are correct and then adjust accordingly.
For now, I think it is trial and error.
All of this is just opinion and advice, hopefully some other people will be able to help you out.
Good luck!

You need to talk to your dr again. That's not normal, nor ok. It's such a miserable feeling. I'm on maxide for water retention and I only take a quarter of a pill daily. If your PCP won't listen, talk to your OBGYN. Good luck to you.0

I too have a history of high blood pressure. I am stable on my medication at this time. I hope to be able to be completely off of all of my blood pressure medications soon! fingers crossed! Dr. okay me to start this weight loss journey. He said my BP was stable and gave me the go ahead to start my new lifestyle changes.
Just last week I learned last week after having had a snow crabs legs for "Father's Day" celebration. I can literally feel my ankles start to swell, that it hurt to walk, and my face starts to feel puffy too. I was informed about sodium intake may be too high for me. MFP macros has it a standard at 2500mg. I recently started limiting my sodium intake & edited my food diary to 1500mg per day.
I found in my researching about sodium. I was always asked by my doctors about my sodium intake. I would always state to them that I do not add salt onto my foods or while I am cooking. I discovered that it is alot more than that. It is in all of the foods I consume....and in very large amounts. I am now very conscious of sodium now that I know better. That it has also probably been the cause for my recent issue with kidney stones. This last week I have noticed my feet and ankles are not swollen and can actually feel the bones in my feet and I measured my ankles...I have lost 1" inch off both ankles in just one week of consuming alot of water and watching the sodium intake to lower than 1500mg per day.
I researched about Sodium.......
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that individuals younger than 51 consume less than 2,300 mg of sodium per day. On average, Americans consume about 3,400 mg of sodium per day. In order to lose weight, it is recommended that you consume less than 1,500 mg of sodium per day. I came to find out that most Americans consume over 3000mg per day. If you have a history of high blood pressure or other major health issues....the daily sodium intake should be 1500mg max per day.

This ^^^^^^
Thank You Val for that information. I have my food diary set for 1500 and it is a struggle to not go over it. I have not felt the bone in my ankle in a long time.0 -
Going by your diary you are eating way below your basal metabolic rate:
Monday 922 cals, 20g protein, no fruit no veg
Tuesday 746 cals MINUS 241 from exercise = 505 cals net, only 20g protein
Wednesday 1144 cals MINUS 344 from exercise = 800 cals net, 39g protein, no fruit no veg
Thursday 770 cals, only 24g protein, no fruit no veg
You're not eating enough and your food choices could be a lot more beneficial for you, away from bread and biscuits and towards more vegetables and fruit.0 -

I totally agree with this post.
One of my dear friends was eating similar to that... around 1000-1200 calories a day. No progress.
These last two months she began to use my fitness pal, started eating 1200-1500 depending on workout outs and has been steadily watching the scale and measurements go down.0
