I'm trying to get healthy, and instead I get sick!

Has anyone else gone through this? It's like the body panics because it only gets the calories it needs for a few days. I went through this when I was on Weight Watchers back in 2010. I lost 60 pounds in just over 6 months, but I battled UTI's, massive hair loss, and colds... even though I was consuming more vitamins in a day than I had been prior to the diet. During 2011, I back tracked and put back on 30 pounds. So this year, I decided I'd just work out instead of diet. But eventually, I accepted that dieting and exercise must go hand in hand, and I found MFP. I started monitoring my water intake, eating better, and of course, tracking my exercise. I even bought the Fuze Slenderize drinks because one serving has 200% of your daily Vitamin C. Three days in, I've been hit with one of the worst UTI's I've had in a long time! What am I doing wrong???

I don't really know of a correlation between exercising and modifying diet and UTIs...sometimes women who exercise and sweat a lot could find themselves having more yeast/BV type infections....maybe the same is true for you and UTIs? Since you have a history of them, are you doing preventive measures such as drinking cranberry juice, not taking baths and just taking showers, etc? Sorry you are going through this!0

Thanks! And yes... I do all of the preventive measures, but sometimes, they just hit out of the blue with no warning signs. That's what makes it so terribly frustrating! I plan on talking to the doctor today about it, so if he suggests anything that I've never thought about, I'll post it here for others.0

Are you sure you're eating more vitamins and eating enough? You could get run down easily if not. Id avoid vit C drinks, maybe take vit C and combined Iron vitamins, women are often low on iron and it can make you run down if your body suddenly undergoes any changes.x0

Hey Amy... those are some great suggestions! I take cranberry supplements because cranberry juice has so much natural sugar in it. The bottle in my refrigerator right now says "No sugar added" right on the label. Yet, one cup has 30 grams of sugar! I will definitely pick up some vitamin C supplements too for the same reason. I have also been considering a multi-vitamin because I'm so active, so maybe this is the clue I needed that that's a good idea as well. Again, thanks so much!0
