Hello Everyone!
Just looking for a bit of advice. I love myfitnesspal and have been using it everyday. I been exercising strong for over a month now going 5-6x/week for a minium of 1-2 hours but have seen only a 2 pound weight loss. I'm also breastfeeding my baby who is now 14 weeks old. I've shed all the pregnancy weight but its the old weight I've been carrying around for years that I want to loose.
Thanks!

You have have have to make sure you eat enough. I found personally that if I didn't eat enough my weight loss stalled in favour of keeping milk production. Better then the alternative of loosing weight and loosing supply!
I personally like to keep my Net at least 1200.
Sometimes that means I eat a ton after a big workout day, or sometime that means I just eat my normal calories after a non workout day.
Either way, I want to make sure I get enough to eat.0 -
How many calories are you getting a day? Since you're the only source of food for your baby you should be netting at least 1500-1800 calories a day. Kellymom has some great information about dieting while breastfeeding that can be found here: http://kellymom.com/nutrition/mothers-diet/mom-weightloss/0

I agree. You need to eat healthy snacks whenever your baby eats. I am breastfeeding, my baby is 5 weeks old. I have lost all the baby weight plus 4 more lbs. I have a snack whenever she eats which is every 3 hours.drink plenty of water, if you don't eat enough your body won't have the energy to lose weight and make milk. Also, keep taking your pre-natal vitamins. Congrats on the new baby and good luck.0

My baby is the same age, and I've been on here for 2months. What I did at first was set my goal to lose 2 lbs a week, then I added 500 calories for breast feeding (in the food database.) Once I established that my supply wasn't effected I switched to only adding 300 calories a day for breast feeding. I also found one in the database that allows extra carbs, protein, fat, etc and that's what I've been using for about 7 weeks. Like you, my pregnancy weight is gone, but I started my pregnancy wanting to lose weight, so that's the chub I'm trying to shed now. I've lost 17lbs in 2 months eating what's recommended for a 2lb loss per week and adding those 300-500 for nursing.0

I didn't really start losing weight until about the 6-month mark of breastfeeding; I'm not sure if it was because my milk production was so high at that point but I didn't even watch my weight and I got really skinny. Like the other posters have mentioned please do make sure you are eating enough, you don't want you or your baby to suffer from malnutrition. And congratulations!0

Honestly, I lost a little while breastfeeding but did not calorie restrict. I would wait to get really serious about weight loss until you are done breastfeeding or just eat at maintenance plus the extra cals for baby and create a small deficit with the exercise you are already doing. Also, lowering your sugar intake, simple carbs, small changes. You have some extra hormones right now too which is going to make it more difficult for you to lose. I bf for 14 mnths so I know it's hard. Best of luck to you!0 -
Have you measured yourself? I seem to be trading off between losing inches and losing pounds, which is fine by me. While I did input a weight goal, primarily because I'd ideally like to lose some weight before we TTC number two, I decided it is far more important for me to tone and build muscle right now because I slacked on everything but cardio and stretching during pregnancy. Of course, I haven't hit my pre partum weight quite yet at four months PP so I could stall as I get closer (10 pounds away). I also worked out lightly and ate well for nearly four months before I began to see any weight loss other than the initial drop. I even regained in the beginning, likely because I had cut my calories too low for breastfeeding. My son tends to be a slow gainer and is a very low percentile so I have to be really mindful of my supply. I weigh him weekly so I can verify trends in his growth. I'm actually glad I decided to start doing that at two months otherwise I would have been convinced that my weight loss attempts impacted his weight gain. The only thing that seemed to make a difference was the week I had my first post partum period. He wasn't fussy so I didn't realize he was eating less . However, now I probably eat 2600-2800 calories per day (exercise 800-1000/calories per day because we take a lot of walks and I haven't started eating any of those calories back because I need a HRM) which might make a difference. If my weight loss stalls or goes too fast I will probably increase my calories even more as opposed to decrease them. I might also add in a calorie spike day to keep my body on its toes.0

Thank you so much everyone for your input!
Well, here's the deal. Baby Chloe has been getting formula too for a while now way before I started exercising and watching what I ate. I know they say you always make enough milk but I don't. I didn't have enough for the other two kids either. Soooo I just give her what I can and supplement. I used to worry endlessly about it bc I never wanted to introduce formula too early but that's life...no guilt! I tried everything pumping, teas, beer, vitamins...it just didn't work. I've accepted I have to give her formula and that's ok. She's very healthy and happy!
Also before begining any exercising or dieting the weight was creeping back up. At 6 weeks postpartum I was 172 (that's after loosing all the pregnancy weight) and before I knew it, it was back up to 176! I was like oh heck no!! That's when I started exercising and joind mfp.
Regarding measurements, I did take them but only recently so no baseline :--( Duh I should have done it in the begining but oh well. However, I can fit into a pair of pre-baby jeans that didn't go above my thighs about a month ago. Surely there's progress there!
Thanks again everyone! Love the support and congratulations on your success and babies!!0
