lifting, but not doing legs need advice

Just a quick summary, ive lost about 30 pounds now. im 5ft 8inch male 192 pounds. but all i did was cardio to lose the weight, now i have been doing heavy lifting/ running for the past month since my body fat is still sorta high. i feel great even though scale hasnt moved. i just needed ur advice

my weekly schedule
m/w/f heavy lifting with 1 mile run ( chest/tri, bicep/back,should/traps)
t/thur/sat/sun- i run a 4miles twice a week, and do (insanity cardio or plyometric a third day)

i am scared to do legs, because ive never really done them, and i feel like the soreness would take away my abilitiy to run and build my indurance.

Any opinions?

    first few times i did my legs they hurt like hell for a few days, I do them every other week instead of every week, I just don't go crazy with the weight (if you go to a gym maybe just use the machines and not free weights)
  • yea same, thats why i dont want to do it. if i did it i really wanted to squat and other free weight stuff, i feel like the machines dont do as much, and i mind as well just run longer.

    I think you need to do leg workouts as well to help keep up some muscle tone. Leg workouts also help with the running, make you faster, and it helps with the hills.
  • I agree with the others too. Try to start with a few leg exercises even if it's lunges while holding weights in both hands or power squats. It doesn't hurt to build muscle in the legs. It will help with your running for sure. If you need any leg exercise tips just drop me a line. :)
  • i would love some, does it make a difference though? since i do run a good amount, and plyometrics and pure cardio insanity incorporates squats and such.
  • This is going to sound funny, but Step Aerobics gives you great legs.

    or you will end up looking like one of those guys who only lift upper body and have chicken legs...NOT attractive. Get yourself into a power rack and SQUAT!

    Squats and deadlifts are required in any "heavy lifting" regimen. Just sayin'. :drinker:

    You are going to be sore as hell and you won't want to move, but it is important that you do legs. You can work through the soreness. Squats are a good place to start.

    Your gluteus maximus, quadriceps, and hamstrings are the biggest set of muscles in your body. You can choose how heavy you want to go, but DO workout legs. You can look on the internet for various exercises, maybe get a trainer for a couple of sessions, or ask someone who does leg workouts for help. I always learned that if you want to lose above the waist, you work below the waist. Best of luck!!

    Do legs.

    It helped tremendously with my running and biking.

    I throw some leg lifts with every lifting session which is full body.

    Mondays include powercleans and stiff leg deadlifts.
    Wednesdays includes front squats followed by the leg press on the 45% sled.
    Fridays is deadlifts.

    Doing legs has helped my cardio routines, not hindered them.

    absolutely, do legs. it really helps improve your running. climbing hills does too. a bit of cross training can really boost your strength and speed while running.

    Lol lets take the largest muscles in the body and forget about them because we cant handle DOMS.
    Take some fish oil and MAN UP!!!!
    Squats 3x a week will help you build up strength in your whole body.
    Once you get through the first week or 2 its easy!
