I've just noticed that a few hours after I work out, I get really really sleepy. It doesn't happen all the time though. Does this happen to anyone else? and why does this happen?

What are you eating immediately following your workout? It almost sounds like you need more carbs (if you start with somewhat depleted glycogen levels and don't adequately refuel after exercising you're going to be a sleepy head....)
The other half of the question is.....how long have you been working out? Have you significantly increased the frequency, duration and/or intensity recently? It may also be a question of adaptation.0 -
It happens to me all the time. I used to get up, exercise, cool down, shower and then fall back asleep. Now when I'm not exercising as much as I should, it's worse.0

I used to work out 4-5 times a week. I then stopped, and just started back less than 2 weeks ago. So, yes, the frequency has increased. I also pedal faster on my stationary bike now than I used to, so intensity has increased. Duration is about the same (45 mins-1 hr of cardio and about 30 minutes of toning). I always try to eat my fair share of carbs, but I usually end the day with around 40g left. Today I have 127g left.0 -
Intense cardio makes me sleepy. Walking and strength not so much.0

If I have been doing heavy lifting, I notice I need some sleep...and protein! If I have done lots of cardio, and have not eaten enough carbs...I get sleepy. When I had gone to a lower carb diet, at first I was sleepy (not anymore, I am used to it.).
I does not hurt, and is good, to take a little siesta, just close your eyes and totally relax, at least a few minutes. Not a long nap, just enough to refresh.
Yes, I did notice your carbs are low....which I think is nice, but adjust it if you need to, if you are doing more cardio. Just add like a piece of toast (or half...hearty wheat has 20 grams!) and see if that does it.0 -
this is good question, there are times when i feel sleepy but there are times that i'm so alert that i find myself having trouble sleeping.0

I don't get so much sleepy as just really relaxed. I think it may have to do with endorphins the body releases when we exercise, that cause a state of well being.0

yes, more carbs before workout.0

After I work out my legs I usually feel like I'm gonna die.
I love it.0
