so i have always had weight problems and when i finally started seeing a primary physcian reguarly i asked her about weight loss help she said when i quit breastfeeding she will help me. well I have an appoinment to see her for the first time since 6 months ago and i want to talk about my weight loss (im 30 lbs lighter than i was last time i saw her i think) i need tips and advice on what to talk to her about. i really dont have money or lots of benefits to be seen too much either. (my max limit is 12 visits a year and when u get sick u may have to be seen i dont want to waste those visits) are there any tests i should ask about getting or maybe specialist help (i dont know how any of it works) thanks if anyone can help me.

I went to my doctor to start too. You can get all the usual blood work and all that good stuff. My doctor gave me a whole bunch of reading material and a physical therapist. I had lower back pain, because I was so heavy.0

I have RA and high cholesterol. I went to my doctor to talk about my cholesterol and weight. She told me that alot of insurance companies have nurses that you can call to get support and assistance with weight loss. I checked into it and they did. I use both the computer and phone to discuss different issues. It did not cost me any additional money. You may want to check it out to see if you have that available. With the new health care law they offer more preventative services.0

Ask the doc to do all the blood tests they would do during an annual physical exam and have them send a copy of the results to your home. Talk about any physical issues you may have...back pain, knee pain, difficulty breathing, heartburn, etc. Also ask for a referral to a nutritionist for more specific dietary information. Most regular doctors have a somewhat limited understanding of nutrition. Good luck with your 5-10 minutes with the doctor.0

In our Endocrinology department, when we receive patients from their PCP's referring them, we do a standard list of blood work. Your PCP can still order these results as well!
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
BMP
Testosterone/Aldosterone
Estrogen
Follicle Stimulating
Blood sugar (a 12 hr fast to get the A1C level)
A1C
Insulin
Creatinine
Total Cholesterol Panel
RA Factor Quant
Calcium levels
This is just a base-line.
EDIT: I meant to include that, we prefer the patient do a 12 hour fasting even though you can do a nothing-after-midnight fast. We tend to get a more effective A1C reading and better Insulin reading that way0
