Rice

Hi,
I'm not a native Korean, but I've lived here for quite a long time. I have a question about rice. Is it good? bad? so-so? I've heard about brown rice being a better option, but what about rice with mixed grains? I can't find brown rice here; instead, I eat rice with an added grain like barley or black rice. I guess I could eat straight black rice, but it seems a little odd and probably not as good. I ask because I'm trying to lose weight, but I'm afraid that it would be impossible because of the amount of rice I eat everyday.

Portion.
By the way if you are eating black rice versus brown rice, you're fine; black rice is brown rice basically but without the husk or bran removed so technically even better. Has a good amount of fiber, protein, super rich in vitamin e and similar in properties to blueberries antioxidant wise.
It all comes back though, to portion. Explore your food options.0 -
Agreed.
Rice is rice.
Black rice is brown rice is white rice.
Each level is more clean than the one before. In the end, as a carb source, you are still eating the same "rice." Just that, for example, brown rice will have more fiber than white rice. Its more preference based on what I have found in my research. Just portion what you want to eat out.
Enjoy what you eat, just watch how much you are eating on a day to day basis.1 -

And frankly, white rice if fine. It's a source of energy. Consumed in reasonable proportions, it will provide you with fuel to keep you going throughout the day. Just make sure you're getting good proteins, fats, veggies, and fruits too.0 -
Thank you, to all that have posted. You have all put my mind at ease.
I've been told that you can't lose weight if you eat white rice with every meal or whatever.
I feel good knowing that my fitness goals won't be halted on account of what carbohydrate I'm eating.
Sure, bread is fine too, but since moving here I've lost a taste for bread, as well as other red meats.
I'll try to keep my protein levels up. It has always been a difficult taste for me, since childhood.
Anyway, thank you!0 -

Are you living near Seoul? If I'm not mistaken you have access to one of the most impressive seafood markets on earth there. Protein shouldn't be an issue.0 -
I don't live near Seoul, but I live in the country. I don't have a problem with eating fish and some bird, but someone told me that it wasn't enough in order to achieve my fitness goals.0

I eat white rice. I just don't eat a lot of it and still lose weight when I need to.

Thousands of people in Asia eat rice on a daily basis without becoming obese or having chronic health problems Just watch the amount.0

I eat rice every morning with 3 eggs. It keeps me full longer than most other breakfasts, so I don't snack as much.0

Most times I limit my rice, potatoes or pasta to no more than 1/2 cup with meals and then add double veggies and protein. What about tofu as a protein source? Also, you can try beans, lentils, almonds, yogurt, etc for protein sources. Good Luck and Keep Pushing!0

I love rice, and I eat it most days (in moderation) and I've still been able to lose weight. At the end of the day it comes down to calories in and calories out.0

I personally had to give up white rice a few yrs ago b/c I have digestive issues with it but not with brown rice. I would go for the black rice b/c it has the most nutrients retained. I don't know what you consider "too much" but too much of anything isn't good. Moderation is key0
